Critics Consensus

Angels and Demons is a fast-paced thrill ride, and an improvement on the last Dan Brown adaptation, but the storyline too often wavers between implausible and ridiculous, and does not translate effectively to the big screen.

Namrata Joshi Outlook Angels and Demons is far more accessible than Da Vinci Code and far more pacy too. It doesn't want viewers to pause, and reflect. Rated: 2/4 Feb 1, 2019 Full Review Deborah Ross The Spectator All I can really say about it is this: if there is one movie you don't see this year, do make it this one. Aug 29, 2018 Full Review Hank Sartin Time Out Rated: 3/5 Nov 18, 2011 Full Review David Griffiths Subculture Entertainment ‘Angels And Demons’ does have a few ‘James Bond-how-could-you-possibly-manage-to-do-that?’ moments but overall works well. It leaves you constantly guessing (and more importantly actually caring) what happens next, is well written and beautifully captured Rated: 3/5 Oct 29, 2024 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …an ersatz Indiana Jones without the wit, but with long stretches of cross-word puzzle wisdom and shonky history lessons, a National Treasure without the action… Rated: 2/5 Aug 29, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Angels & Demons makes a better thriller than its predecessor Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 5, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Paul S I didn't like it as much as The Da Vinci Code, but it was still fun to watch. There were a lot of parts of the story that seemed ludicrous and outlandish to me, but overall, it was a really compelling mystery that had me hooked. I definitely recommend it for mystery fans! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/15/25 Full Review Korra N An oddly fun "chase" thriller that's far from great but still a pretty good time with an outstanding musical score & some great effects work. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/09/25 Full Review Christina A Much faster pace than The DaVinci Code, but maybe even slightly too fast. But I felt it was enjoyable with solid performances. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/25 Full Review Mary S It makes Catholicism seem antiquated and creepy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/04/25 Full Review Max B How much longer are you going to pretend... this is not a fantastic movie. It truly is fabulous - from the opening scenes with the Vatican/Papal traditions surrounding the death of the Pope to great characters, superb acting and the usual helping movie tourism, I completely love this movie. I'm intrigued by the observations of others that the ending was far-fetched, unbelievable or ridiculous but personally found the opposite. A thrilling action scene followed by an emotional and satisfying resolution. Five stars in my book. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Read all reviews
