Angels & Demons Reviews

‘Angels And Demons’ does have a few ‘James Bond-how-could-you-possibly-manage-to-do-that?’ moments but overall works well. It leaves you constantly guessing (and more importantly actually caring) what happens next, is well written and beautifully captured

…an ersatz Indiana Jones without the wit, but with long stretches of cross-word puzzle wisdom and shonky history lessons, a National Treasure without the action…

Angels & Demons makes a better thriller than its predecessor

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Sep 5, 2023

Angels & Demons gets in, has a lot of fun with its concept, moves along at a rattling pace, and gets out before you've had the chance to notice just how awful it really is.

| Original Score: 6/10 | Jan 14, 2022

Once again, the biggest misstep is in the conclusion, this time suffering from even worse pacing and outrageous implausibility - instead of just a generally disagreeable idea.

Langdon is a role that Hanks could easily play in his sleep and, to his credit, he doesn't do so.

[U]nsurprisingly, [Angels & Demons] treads much the same path as its predecessor; it's very long, very melodramatic and very middle-of-the-road.

The even-trashier sequel to The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons is another mirthless Catholic scavenger hunt from director Ron Howard and author Dan Brown.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 27, 2019

Just another farfetched potboiler, making less and less sense as it hits increasingly predictable plot twists.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Jun 6, 2019

Angels and Demons is far more accessible than Da Vinci Code and far more pacy too. It doesn't want viewers to pause, and reflect.

...the wacky action finale ruins the whole zoning-out experience, plus it pushes the film to a punishing two-and-a-half hours. Damn! Sometimes it seems like they can't even make good crap anymore.

All I can really say about it is this: if there is one movie you don't see this year, do make it this one.

...results in a much more attractive movie than the previous... [Full review in Spanish]

Hanks's Langdon still barely draws breath without waffling the same expository gobbledegook that made The Da Vinci Code such a plodding experience, but this time he does more than just walk and talk - he spouts and sprints!

Angels & Demons is housewife-targeted holiday read nonsense, given a Hollywood spit 'n' shine and go-faster stripes by a once-burned, twice-shy director desperate to make amends.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 29, 2012

In many respects, Angels & Demons is a pretty straightforward terrorist-hostage film.

| Original Score: 7/10 | Feb 11, 2012

If The Da Vinci Code was characterized by people sitting at tables and talking, then this sequel-set film of the prequel book is characterized by people walking briskly and talking.
