Eleven Minutes Reviews
Finished the movie as confused about it's purpose as when I started it. If it weren't for Jay McCarroll's honest, sharp and interesting personality (and the desire to see his creations), I'm not sure this documentary would have had anything substantial to say.
Stylishly done, but without a real point of view or reason to exist. Makes you appreciate what the editors of "Project Runway" do cutting the same kind of material (pun intended) into a tight, fairly dramatic 50 minutes on a weekly basis. If you were a Jayfan, help yourself - if not, don't bother.
I'm a huge fan of Project Runway, but not much of a fan of its very first winner, Jay McCarroll. Still I appreciated this doc's goal of showing the ongoing battle between artistic integrity and commercial viability.
A hilarious look into what it takes to put on a fashion show during Fashion week in New York featuring Jay McCarroll and a fabulous cast of the fashion industry's usual suspects. Good fun.
Prior to ditching tv, I was addicted to the reality show. In particular; Project Runway. I loved Jay then and I love him now. Beyond the peek inside the fashion world, this is a great doc. Hats off to the directors. The film captures the subtle nuances of a big personality while pulling the audience in. And tension... Would they ever get all the 40+ pieces cut for the dress, would the Anthony the Shoe Guy deliver?!?!? The final reveal of the collection at Fashion Week was merely the trim on the hem of this fun, insightful and very human story.
With all respect, you learn a lot from failure. In watching Jay's attempt to go commercial, you can gain many gems of wisdom.
