Brothers Reviews
The cinematography was perfect, the perspective switches were smooth, and the acting is amazing by an all star cast. Toby Maguire is typecast in a lot of things but I was shocked and impressed by his ability to emulate a perfect person diminished into a ghost of a man going through extreme psychological horror, it was shocking. The details behind the war situation are limited but the gist is 9/11 tensions with the middle east and the focus is on the experience of the characters. Honestly, the insights and performances in this movie are on point and it's a well done film that should be appreciated for what it is.
Only recommend to your worst enemies. This is so saddening especially for couples with husbands who are coming back from war. Disgrace
I love Tobey Maguire but he was a horrible casting choice for this role. You can't see him as anything else than Spiderman, and you can't take him seriously in this role. I was literally laughing out loud at certain points that were supposed to extremely dark and serious, just because Tobey is such a meme in today's culture. And also, even without the whole previous association with Spiderman, Tobey is not remotely believable as a hardened soldier. He's scrawny as hell with a high pitched voice that cracks like friggin Seinfeld. His entire vibe is diffidence, and trying to force his square peg into the round hole of this role is unintentionally hilarious. A better casting choice would have improved this movie, but it would still be mediocre at best. The dialogue is formulaic and the tone is kind of all over the place. Natalie Portman is really hot though, so there's that.
Decent ngl
Oyunculuk gayet iyi ama sanki kurgu da boşluklar var gibi ortalama bir film, Jake Gyllenhaal öylece dursa da izleyebilirim:)
pretty damn intense! all the actors give such good performances the movie is alot different from what you'd normally see in a war film it lets you understand how the war can cost not only life, but family and the fragileness of your inner existence
A movie about PTSD and how war can change people. The acting of the girl playing Isabelle was insane. But unfortunately, only few scenes sticking out as a whole.
Sad, really freaking sad. Great performances and a story that really makes you think.
This is a fantastic movie, the acting is top notch and makes you sit at the edge of your seat. the contrast from a suburban household to the hell that is war is well done and really adds to the story
Brilliant acting great powerful story
Special Effects: 0,5/Sound Effects: 1,0/Acting: 1,0/Story: 1,5
Really great movie it shows what sort of thing soldiers endure when coming home from traumatic experience Smashing up the house is pretty Common thing as well as violence and anger issues. Powerful movie I liked it.
I was looking for a good movie to watch and happened upon Brothers. Wow! I found a great movie with some of the most believable acting I have seen in a long time! Really gives you an idea of the effects of going to battle and experiencing horrific treatment that no one can understand unless you have been there. I couldn't stop thinking about it!
Very touching and excellent performance by the actors who play the two brothers.
The acting is phenomenal in this. (Ignore below commenter Jeff M). Not sure that they know what the term 'melodramatic' is. This is a film about PTSD, the effects of war, and how people deal with grief (in sometimes very bad ways). Nothing melodramatic about it. Melodrama is overreacting because someone spilt coffee on your shirt.
Overwrought, unconvincing drama with Maguire miscast. Portman fine. Gyllenhaal best in show. Some nice moments but overly melodramatic.
Brothers from same mothers. A film that has been forgotten for quite some time, Brothers is a good film but not a film I would suggest to critics like me. The performances from the three main leads are harrowing (Tobey's best performance, he was casted perfectly) but it seems like the bowling ball is lined up perfectly, until it curves, knocking 3 skittles with barriers in the process. What I'm trying to say is, it has everything to make it good but it stumbles trying to get the point across with cringeworthy dialogue and storytelling is too trope enough to get a sense of what it's trying to tell you. I think if the film is made now, it would have a lot of improved storytelling and dialogue to make you thrilled to the point of making an ending much satisfying. But unfortunately the film ends abruptly, with cringeworthy narrating and a song from U2... Really??? Overall it could of been better, it's acting and some scenes (especially the dinner table scene) do save it from grace. But thanks to dull storytelling and a terrible ending, it rests at three. Grade: B
It's a tough movie. His wife and brother are so wrong
For what it is, it's an okay movie. You can’t see Tobey as anyone, but Spider-Man.
