A Dark Song Reviews
Great movie set off of the spiritual book "Abramelin the Mage" that puts you on a quest to get your guardian angel. However if you don't do it right you will get demons and be stuck in a non linear plane of existence. You have to look at this as a spiritual quest that takes a year to complete. You should research a little on the Goetia and Abramelin books. There is a lot on youtube. Miss Walker has an amazing figure for a 40+ women, 18 year olds would want it.
I had no expectations whatsoever when I chose to watch this film. I am glad I made the choice. Takeaways: -personal journeys, both characters are given the screen time needed to understand where they are, have been, and wish to be -slow creeping dread that is actualized -the nature of repentance in many forms -the nature of forgiveness -the reality of coming face to face with something you never should have done, someone you never should have met….the reality that forgiveness is a powerful weapon and healing balm…the notion that you did so so so so so much because you couldn’t do the one thing you need to do for your health and wellbeing… What would you ask your guardian angel? And would it be something horrid or divine?
A Dark Song is a well-crafted, thought-provoking horror film that stands out for its originality, strong performances, and atmospheric direction. It’s a must-watch for fans of the genre who appreciate a more cerebral and emotionally resonant approach to horror.
I stumbled across the book that this movie is based on by pure and utter chance. A series of unpredictable events led me to buy the book. I read it all, didn't try the ritual but investigated. I have to say this film isn't 100% accurate regarding the ritual. The occultist expert is confusing to me in this film. He seemed more like a character in football factory but looks like he should be In Kevin and perry go large. The entities that appear were disappointing. It's meant to be your guardian angel who then guides you through summoning the 11 or 13 prince's and kings of hell including Satan. So they big time missed out on some cool imagery and symbolism. Overall bit of disappointment of a film.
"Best horror movie ever made period end of story." 😄 🤣 😂 😀 I don't remember when I saw this movie and don't remember how it ends. That should tell you how memorable it was. All I do remember is that bald ginger was annoying AF and seemed out of place for the tone of the movie. Don't get the glowing reviews for this turkey.
One of those films that stays with you long after you've seen it. Thoughtful, well acted and feels very real. If you want hack and slash, gore and jump-scares then skip it. If you're up late and fancy something much more interesting and unsettling, you won't regret watching this one.
Best horror movie ever made period end of story. Of course there's "The Witch" and "The Others" hugging along behind it. But for atmospherics this is fabulously subtle and insidious. And super super real feeling which only serves to increase the horror element.
This is unlike any movie I've seen. Its eerie slow buildup was very unique. It leaves a mark.
I still think about this movie a Lot. One of the few Horror movies that left a mark.
Intelligent and challenging, with excellent acting and pacing. Very accurate depiction of the Abramelin Ritual as described in literature, so the writer has done their research well. If you’re looking for a creepy movie but aren’t interested in the usual jump scare teen movies, I’d highly recommend this!
Just bad and extremely boring
Nothing's pandery or cheap here. All quality.
This had some serious suspense and a great cast. Tethering between the psychological and the supernatural. Is he psychologically violent and exploitative, or is he aiding her towards her goal. We find out towards the end but whether the end we want is what we get is the question. 3.5 stars
Could have been a great psychological horror flick. Instead of ramping up angst and tension everything goes flat before the ending. And the ending is not good. There was a good story here but it just never came together. Such a shame.
I just recently learned about this movie. I am shocked that it took me 8 years to discover this masterpiece. I am also shocked that I have never heard of or seen this director or actors in other projects. They have done fantastic work that continues to creep into my mind long after seeing it. This movie is horror but perhaps in its own genre of uplifting horror? I never saw the end coming and the way it was handled was fantastic. This movie has an awe inspiring quality to it and was able to scare me with no jumpscares or cheap tactics. I consider myself a horror junkie and “A Dark Song” easily became one of my top ten favorites. I will be returning to this movie again and again.
One of the best movies with a realistic view into ceremonial magic and redemption.
This is probably my favourite movie of all time.
Horrible! I'm a true horror film and book fan. Stephen King, Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft are masters. This script was slow, boring and tiresome. I really can't understand the high rating. Do yourself a favor and watch something else. I suggest I Am Not A Serial Killer (2016). you'll thank me.
Anyone with knowledge of ceremonial magick will find the attention to detail impressive. There's no quick and flashy visual stuff, no smoke and mirrors, and I know that might be a turn off. Some may not have the patience to see through to the ending without some razzle-dazzle. It's a slow burn of a movie, and that journey to the ending is wonderful and perfect.
Saw this movie and saw the ratings and gave this movie a shot. Let's start with the positives. The acting is really solid! I really enjoy the character work of both actors and how it lead throughout. So much happens and I do love the acting! The camera work was also amazing! I loved the different angles and the work itself was top notch! The story itself was interesting. It was one of those things the was a very slow burn but for some reason, kept m interest. But unfortunately, that's all I got for the postives. The negatives. Holy crap is this movie boring. Like it does have it's moments where it gives you hope that this movie was going to be good. I was clinging on and hoping. But it never paid off. It felt like forever and then when you think the payoff happens, it just takes a dump all over you. The ending was so ridiculous. So throughout the movie it mentions how the goal was to ask the guardian angel for something. The angel itself was so ridiculous. Like my friends and I were laughing so hard at the result and then felt like we wasted our time watching this. I really don't understand the high rating this movie has. I personally did not like it all. I really did try to justify liking it and figure out reasons why people liked but I just can't figure it out. I would suggest avoiding this movie!!!
