A Quiet Place: Day One Reviews
Some of the greatest horror in this eminently suspenseful film comes not from the sci-fi fiction of monsters but from the very visceral imagery of how what we take for granted could be gone in an instant ... either vanished for good or irrevocably changed

If you love horror movies, if you love this universe, if you love Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things, or if you just love cats, A Quiet Place: Day One delivers.

Sarnoski makes the scenes of human intimacy as substantial as anything I’ve yet seen in this series. But just as I did with the first two, I staggered out of the theater glad the movie hadn’t run longer, and suffering from another concussion headache.

Good scares, characters I cared about, and a cute cat. But what does this add to the Quiet Place mythos? Nothing, really.

A Quiet Place: Day One brings all the scares and extended tension from the original back in play with some creatively staged action sequences and engaging performances from its two leads.
| Original Score: 9.5/10 | Nov 26, 2024
Nyong’o and Quinn provide emotionally breathtaking performances, and their portrayal of grief, anxiety, terror and perseverance is extraordinary.

With effective jump scares and flawless production design from Simon Bowles (Apartment 7A), that ensures Manhattan looks suitably war torn, A Quiet Place: Day One delivers the goods without feeling wildly inventive.

Gives us two protagonists absolutely worth our empathy and investment (three if you include Frodo, the most chill cat in a stressful situation since Jones watched Harry Dean Stanton get eviscerated aboard the Nostromo).

While I do think that certain stories should end, I will admit that "A Quiet Place" still has enough excitement, enough possibilities, that this third outing may just be a precursor to at least one more ...

With a fresh vision, a new cast and a scare rate that just won’t quit, this bucks the trend for horrors with diminishing returns.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 17, 2024
The special effects are convincing, but Sarnoski is smart enough to know that less is more.
| Original Score: B | Sep 14, 2024
Sarnoski does an excellent job with the script and direction and is greatly aided by the fantastic actors. It’s a strong story with an interesting angle that finds more to explore in this world of “A Quiet Place.”
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Sep 13, 2024
The movie functions less as a genre justification of us vs. them, and more as a lyrical indie tribute to found family and the value of friendship, love, and life in the face of inevitable mortality.

I must urge the Academy Awards to make a new category: Best Performance by an Animal. This is a category that has been sadly ignored. There are a lot of working animals who deserve recognition for helping assist a star build their character.

Day One delivers a wildly effective big city disaster film while making the most of the franchise’s core concept and keeping the series character-first. Lupita Nyong'o's energy and fight are hugely captivating. An ace digging into character complexities.

While the human actors are well drawn enough to build interest and make us care about them, it’s the alien antagonists that command the screen and garner our attention.
| Aug 19, 2024
Even with Nyong’o and Quinn, and even with the movie’s emphasis on how people deal with impending death, Day One comes across as a familiar, slight, routine horror flick.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Aug 17, 2024
A Quiet Place: Day One is a very pleasant surprise. I’m not sure there’s much more fuel in the franchise’s tank after this, but three good films should be good enough for anyone.

A unique marriage of the disease melodrama and alien invasion sub-genre, [this} would have been better served as an unrelated indie feature than a tacked-on franchise entry. Regardless, Lupita Nyong'o's superb performance undoubtedly enhances...

Three movies in, and it’s quite impressive how the Quiet Place series has managed to deliver consistent quality from its seemingly singular hook.
