A Week Away Reviews
A Week Away may not be as memorable as the teen musicals that came out of the Disney era due to its pretty niche religious undertone that may not be digestible by all, as well as its corny romances and predictable character disagreements.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 6, 2023
A Week Away is an enjoyable film that didn’t find a way to incorporate a balanced tone to make the premise stand out more. Combining elements from Christian beliefs with the campiness from films like High School Musical is what makes the premise unique

While director Roman White's film, scripted by Kali Bailey and Alan Powell, doesn't get any points for originality, its portrayal of young people trying to find their way in the world with the guidance of caring grown-ups will resonate with its target...

The cast is racially diverse, talented, and engaging.

Its trope-y familiarity is perfectly suitable for its target audience, but this is an antiquated, safe depiction of a world that doesn't exist. A Week Away is pure fantasy, but not in a good way

Bailee Madison and Kevin Quinn are stars on the rise as evidenced in this family friendly "church camp" musical.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Apr 9, 2021
Extremely bland. None of the choreography or songs were very interesting
| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 6, 2021
It's ultimately pretty corny (and seemingly socially clueless?).

This Christian teen musical looks to ride the High School Musical wave, but despite positive messages and fine performances, it's not likely to leave as lasting an impression.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 1, 2021
It breaks down stereotypes about being perfect, about being a bad seed, about making friends... There was so much joy in this.

It's hammy, it's predictable, it's a little silly, but what YA musical isn't?
| Original Score: C | Mar 30, 2021
This is a film as tidy, transparent and kid-friendly as a square of Jell-O salad, and so squishily eager-to-please that it doesn't engage with its religious themes so much as tuck them into song lyrics to hover in the narrative like grapes.

"A Week Away" won't make any new converts, but it will make its intended audience smile, or even sing along.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Mar 26, 2021
Light as it may be, A Week Away is still a sweet confection.

While those squarely in its demographic range will probably enjoy it to some extent, pretty much everyone else will find it to be vaguely irritating nonsense whose chief asset is that it is simply too dopey to get particularly upset over.

This innocuous but character-free tuner shamelessly copies and crosses the formulae of "High School Musical" and "Camp Rock" down to the last, sequel-prompting detail.

The movie is ... tolerable, which isn't to say that it's good or particularly entertaining.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Mar 26, 2021
This isn't an unwatchable movie, just an underachieving and forgettable one, and somehow that's more irritating than a disastrous swing for the fences would've been.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Mar 26, 2021
It's somewhat winsome, and the genres work together to avoid some of the pitfalls of other Christian films.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 26, 2021
In some films, the story is not great, but the music is good - A Week Away does not inspire either.
