Accidental Love Reviews
Whatever group of filmmakers took over after Russell left the project, they didn't find a consistent mark at which to set their comedy dial, though most of the time, it's set to eleven, blaring in our faces.

Saved only by the smattering of funny lines and a generally affable cast, perhaps it's no coincidence that this film was an accident waiting to happen.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 8, 2019
It's crude and contrived but Biel has a wide-eyed, Judy Garland-like appeal and she enjoys terrific screen chemistry with an on-form Jake Gyllenhaal.

Utter codswallop.

A bit more focused and this could be a something worth saving. Instead, it's a about as slipshod as its new title.
| Original Score: C | Feb 23, 2016
It's an unmitigated disaster, not even worth a spin as a curiosity piece.

If Russell had been around to fine tune Accidental Love... in its final stages then the satirical blows the film aims at US politics and health care would surely have had a better chance of hitting their target.

David O Russell has moved on, as should we all.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jun 23, 2015
Unsurprisingly, it's a mess.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 21, 2015
It's so irredeemably bad that even Alan Smithee wouldn't touch it.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 19, 2015
Catherine Keener's Machiavellian senator is a comic standout, otherwise the film is strained and messy - but bonkers enough to keep you watching.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 18, 2015
For this kind of comedy to work, absolute precision and relentless speed are essential. Given the circumstances in which the was made, it is little surprise that neither are achieved.

If there are David O Russell completists out there, this is something for them.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 18, 2015
Accidental Love fields a top-level cast in a low-level comedy that combines the peculiar subjects of a nail in the brain, and pork-barrel Washington politics.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jun 18, 2015
[A] smoking crater of a film ... the end result has vital scenes missing, no ending, and performances that often don't make sense.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 18, 2015
Even with Russell on board to see his 'madCapra' farce all the way to release day, its whole raison d'tre - as a political knockabout satire - would still have made the film dead on arrival at the box office. What happened? Barack Obama, that's what.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 18, 2015
The misplaced screwball energy is wearying.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 15, 2015
The bastard offspring of a charmless romcom and a toothless political satire.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jun 15, 2015
It's not hard to see why Russell washed his hands of the unfinished cut; it would've been better left as the mysterious movie we never saw than the half-baked one we're lumbered with now.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 15, 2015
Accidental Love is an utter mess, which is understandable given its troubled provenance. It's also fascinating.
