Afternoon Delight Reviews
I want to see more movies like this, by more women, with more women. That would be delightful.

As a first film, Afternoon Delight is worth exploring -- perhaps mostly to see what film Soloway does next.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Feb 2, 2017
Relaxed, intuitive performances from the top-notch ensemble cast pay dividends, with Hahn commandingly stressy in the central role, and Michaela Watkins impressively abrasive as neighbourhood organiser-in-chief.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 30, 2014
[Soloway] delves fearlessly into raw, intimate and uncomfortable areas that more conventional comedies would avoid like the plague.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 28, 2014
Tension dissolves towards the end but Jane Lynch's turn (as Rachel's pompous, self-referential shrink) never gets old.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 28, 2014
The cast is uniformly excellent, but special mention is due to Jane Lynch as a narcissistic therapist with distracting glasses.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 27, 2014
Occupies much the same space as the films of director Nicole Holofcener and does so pretty well.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 27, 2014
Six Feet Under scribe Jill Soloway offers a wry perspective on married life as Temple's stripper-with-a-heart is lobbed into this domestic yarn like a firecracker in an arms cache.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 24, 2014
Afternoon Delight has many small pleasures but falls far short of reaching the G spot.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Sep 13, 2013
The story doesn't hold together, but Hahn and Temple are terrific.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Sep 12, 2013
The results are a little life lesson-y but well-observed.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 12, 2013
The entire film is good but the revelation here is Hahn, reliably one of the funniest women in Hollywood, now suddenly given a rich, complex and even sexy role.
| Original Score: B+ | Sep 6, 2013
It's refreshing to hear dialogue that's natural and modern and doesn't try to pontificate. And the rewards are many.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 5, 2013
"Afternoon Delight" puts the typical suburban mother's lifestyle under an uncomfortably honest microscope, then documents the sporadically funny and occasionally sad results.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Sep 5, 2013
A couple's marriage is edging toward collapse when they try to reboot their dormant sex life in this sly, hip, and rewarding comedy of manners.
| Sep 5, 2013
[Soloway] excels at drawing out nuances in female friendship. Here, though, she promises an uncomfortable exposé of middle-class morality, then doesn't follow through.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Sep 5, 2013
It's an up-and-down movie, honest one minute and a fraud the next, but you stick with it mainly because of Hahn.
Full Review | Original Score: 2.5/4 | Sep 5, 2013
The misfire of Afternoon Delight is one of writing, almost as if Soloway was afraid to let her characters progress to a truly interesting place.
| Original Score: 3.0/5.0 | Sep 5, 2013
The moral of the story appears to be: Don't invite a stripper to come live with you in your home. Suggestion noted.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 30, 2013
As the sweetly amoral tattooed-goddess-for-hire, Temple does her wiliest acting yet.
