Alien 3 Reviews
After you finish watching the original trilogy, you might feel bad for Ripley. I do at least. Basically the entire trilogy takes place over a few months for her, and both Aliens and this film over a few days, as she immediately goes from Aliens to Alien 3 with no break. The trilogy is a great and epic story, sure, but you can feel her pain in this movie. Let's get into it. The story is that after Aliens, Ripley and Newt's ship crashed on a prison planet. Newt also died, which wasn't the best choice and a flaw of the film, but it is what it is. Meanwhile, an alien bursts from a dog's chest and just like that, we have Ripley and prisoners vs. a Xenomorph. It's similar to the plot of the last two, but also Ripley has an alien inside her, an interesting idea that raises the stakes. It also leads to Ripley's death. Yep, she dies in this one, so this is basically the finale to the series. It's second to last in the timeline, anyways, so this is 100% the finale to Ripley's character. And it works, as she dives into a furnace while an alien bursts out of her chest. It just feels nice and wraps up the trilogy in a nice, neat bow. Because that's what this movie is: a movie to wrap up the story. Also the aesthetic is cool, being orange-green and feeling dirty, as it's a prison planet. Just a pretty good film in general. Overall, a solid finale to Ellen Ripley's character and an underrated Alien movie.
Perfect ending to tie up all the loose ends in 1 and 3 I honestly don't get why people hate it so much. I loved the genetic testing scenes.
"Ailen 3" isn't the greatest sequal, but it also isn't as bad as they say. The Cgi may be funky at times, and the story isn't great but the acting is well put together and there are tons of great moments and gore in this movie
The Theatrical Version leaves much to be desired, with a frustratingly hard-to-watch execution and disappointing character elements. However, the Assembly Cut offers a significantly improved experience, featuring a different xenomorph origin. Unfortunately, even with these improvements, the film as a whole remains the weakest entry in the franchise. Hardcore fans may find value in the Assembly Cut, but casual viewers should steer clear and opt for any other installment in the series.
If you can, watch the extended cut.
They took everything that made Aliens great and completely removed it from the equation. It had a lot of great visuals, but the story was horrible, and it made no sense. You can definitely skip this one to get the best Alien franchise experience.
This is one of the worst sequels ever made. The decision to kill off two beloved characters off-screen was horrendous. Some characters deserve a happy ending. It is dark bleak and utterly devoid of hope. It's not in any way fun or engaging. After Aliens ramped up the pace they followed the bang with a whimper. It was plagued with rewrites and production problems and it shows. This is without a doubt Fimchers worst film.
I don’t get the hate, visually is gorgeous for the time and the story line is quite solid and well written.
Good script, great concept. Crashing on a prison planet with no real weapons to fight any aliens. Very good acting, I actually believed that these were convicts who committed heinous crimes trying to fight for their lives. Underrated alien movie in my opinion.
Although this is an Alien film, I didn't enjoy it that much. It is my second least favourite (second to Resurrection, of course.) This film is the same thing as the first two, but it doesn't have the tension and horror of Alien, nor the action from Aliens, so you're left with the worst of both worlds. It isn't terrible, but it's not my first choice for an Alien film.
Proof that a bigger budget does not make a better movie. This plot is all over the place. There is much more gore and violence than either previous movie. Lt. Ripley being female was never a plot device in previous movies. I appreciated that. This setting was interesting, and thought provoking, but sexualised her needlessly and the tropes were thin. CGI was terrible. The two Alien depictions felt like different creatures. One large and menacing, able to hide very well, faster than eye, the other almost like a scampering dog and very underwhelming.
The host that allowed Fincher’s career to grow into the perfect organism. A dark, depressing film that alienated and scarred the potential younger audience that the studio had been pursuing commercially for the series. It follows the pattern of talented directors taking their entry in the franchise in a completely different genre: Scott gave a sci-fi story a heavy horror influence, Cameron made the sequel more action focused and Fincher highlights the psychological thriller aspects. Sigourney Weaver always delivers as Ripley, however the supporting cast/characters are weaker in this compared to the past films. While it is a huge step-down quantity wise compared to the two previous modern classics, it still has an intriguing plot and provides insight into one of the current director greats establishing his style.
Best of the series and it's because it got a mention in Deadpool...if you want a real thriller go see Babygirl staring Kidman and Banderas #Babygirl
Surprisingly not as bad as I anticipated with its divisive reputation amongst the Alien franchise. Yes, the story decision to immediately kill off Newt, Hicks, and Bishop was a giant middle finger to its beloved predecessor and snuffed out countless potential continuing storylines with these beloved characters. But if we’re going with this disappointing premise, then the movie might as well commit to its setup, which it does quite well. The movie is very miserable, but there’s still a glimmer of hope with finding comradery and cooperation even amongst the lowest of people in the lowest of locales. As frustrating as Newt, Hicks, & Bishop’s deaths were, their demise admittedly hooked my attention and kept me engaged all the way through with its high stakes and rising tension. The color palette is unappealing, but the filmmaking is well done with some dynamic cinematography and decent special effects. Even Ripley’s sacrifice felt well-foreshadowed and ties in well with the movie’s theme of all the characters’ inevitable mortality and moral upstanding to sacrifice what they hold dear in order to protect humanity from the company’s reckless fascination with trying to play god with the xenomorphs. It’s not nearly up to the same level as the original 2, but it holds its own weight and is underrated in my book.
alien cubed. this is where it starts going off the rails.
Great direction and acting, effects that aged pretty poorly, absolute horrible script.
Puro engano. Kkkkkk Roteiro e enredo fraco, triste,... Vale apena assistir? Só se for fã. Nota: 4
I didn’t watch Alien 3 when it first came out, partly because of the feel-bad start—killing off nearly all the surviving characters from Aliens. It also looked like a poorly done Tom Waits music video. However, giving it a chance recently, I found it’s not as bad as I’d expected. I can understand why they took the story in that direction, though it’s intriguing to imagine an alternate plot where Ripley protects Newt in a prison setting. That could have been compelling, though potentially tricky to handle. The film is pretty well put together, with some interesting casting choices—it was nice spotting a few Withnail and I actors in cameos. The plot held together reasonably well, and the special effects and overall atmosphere worked effectively to set the mood. The first two movies excelled in making you care deeply about their characters. Fincher made an effort to replicate that here, but apart from Dillon, there wasn’t much emotional connection with anyone besides Ripley. The ending felt a bit schlocky, but it kind of made sense within the arc of the overall story.
