Rated 3.5/5 Stars •  Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Josh A Turns out, death can't save Ripley, for they bring her back as a clone. Sure, it feels a bit cheap, but if you see Ripley 8 as a separate being with Ripley's memories, you can see this as a standalone event that happened in the Alien timeline. And it works in that sense. Alien 3 was the finale, this is an optional bonus story. And, while I'm not rewatching it any time soon, it's pretty good. The story is interesting: it's been two hundred years since Alien 3, and they want to make a clone of Ripley, so they do, but they give her some Xenomorph DNA. They also make a Xenomorph. Chaos ensues. It's a pretty typical story for an Alien movie, nothing to phone home about, but it's entertaining enough for what it is. This is also why this movie is so wild. Because that's what this movie is. It's wild. They realised they couldn't continue Ripley's story after Alien 3, so they did this. And they made Ripley able to play basketball. It's just interesting, to say the least. It focuses a lot on comedy and feels more like Aliens, I'd say, and it generally feels like a fun movie made because why not. And I like it for that. I feel like I'm one of the only people to have a positive experience with this movie, and I'm fine with that. Overall, a solid and fun movie to conclude the timeline. With the Alien series being as diverse as it is, we were due for a campy entry and damn does this film pitch a tent. It keeps with the series tradition of dipping into unique sub-genres, but the quip comedy sub-genre doesn’t really work with the Alien universe. This film introduces some terrifying scenarios involving Xenomorphs and pairs the iconic horror actresses, Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder, but so many of its big swings feel like misses. While it marks a continued decline in quality for the series, it still remains an entertaining watch for fans of the series, though in a B horror way this time. Rated 1/5 Stars •  Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/04/25 Full Review Kevin P While Alien 3 pleasantly surpassed my low expectations, this movie eagerly met the low bar set by its infamous reputation as the worst Alien movie. Despite the big names attached to this project, the acting is terrible all across the board in that obnoxiously smirky camera-mugging 90s kind of way as everyone overacts in such a cartoonish way that clashes with the sci-fi horror tone. The only exception to this is Sigourney Weaver, but she has the opposite problem where she under-acts to everything and it leaves a movie with no one to care about. Brad Dourif oddly enough was the only entertaining performance in the whole thing. The dialogue is really cheesy and there are so many nonsensical and shark-jumping moments and concepts that this movie bombards you with. Especially the half-assed baby human-alien hybrid at the end, which is neither cute enough for sympathy or evil enough for gratification when it perishes. Even the soundtrack is obnoxiously bombastic and feels out of place with the grimy horror setting. The only saving graces are some of the visual set designs, Sigourney Weaver’s impressive backwards basketball shot, and the admittedly tense underwater chase sequence. It’s not the most infuriating shark-jumping franchise sequel I’ve seen (cough, cough 2018 predator), but it’s easily one of the most baffling and poorly executed jumbled messes I’ve seen in a while. I think no matter how weak we think story line is, it keeps one thing which was continuation. The dots from Alien til this movie connects pretty well. However, Prequels has big issues in my opinion.
