Alien Resurrection Reviews
I know most fans don't like this movie. But I kind of like it.
Turns out, death can't save Ripley, for they bring her back as a clone. Sure, it feels a bit cheap, but if you see Ripley 8 as a separate being with Ripley's memories, you can see this as a standalone event that happened in the Alien timeline. And it works in that sense. Alien 3 was the finale, this is an optional bonus story. And, while I'm not rewatching it any time soon, it's pretty good. The story is interesting: it's been two hundred years since Alien 3, and they want to make a clone of Ripley, so they do, but they give her some Xenomorph DNA. They also make a Xenomorph. Chaos ensues. It's a pretty typical story for an Alien movie, nothing to phone home about, but it's entertaining enough for what it is. This is also why this movie is so wild. Because that's what this movie is. It's wild. They realised they couldn't continue Ripley's story after Alien 3, so they did this. And they made Ripley able to play basketball. It's just interesting, to say the least. It focuses a lot on comedy and feels more like Aliens, I'd say, and it generally feels like a fun movie made because why not. And I like it for that. I feel like I'm one of the only people to have a positive experience with this movie, and I'm fine with that. Overall, a solid and fun movie to conclude the timeline. It's basically the Jason X of Alien.
Canonically, Ripley can straight up ball! With the Alien series being as diverse as it is, we were due for a campy entry and damn does this film pitch a tent. It keeps with the series tradition of dipping into unique sub-genres, but the quip comedy sub-genre doesn’t really work with the Alien universe. This film introduces some terrifying scenarios involving Xenomorphs and pairs the iconic horror actresses, Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder, but so many of its big swings feel like misses. While it marks a continued decline in quality for the series, it still remains an entertaining watch for fans of the series, though in a B horror way this time.
While Alien 3 pleasantly surpassed my low expectations, this movie eagerly met the low bar set by its infamous reputation as the worst Alien movie. Despite the big names attached to this project, the acting is terrible all across the board in that obnoxiously smirky camera-mugging 90s kind of way as everyone overacts in such a cartoonish way that clashes with the sci-fi horror tone. The only exception to this is Sigourney Weaver, but she has the opposite problem where she under-acts to everything and it leaves a movie with no one to care about. Brad Dourif oddly enough was the only entertaining performance in the whole thing. The dialogue is really cheesy and there are so many nonsensical and shark-jumping moments and concepts that this movie bombards you with. Especially the half-assed baby human-alien hybrid at the end, which is neither cute enough for sympathy or evil enough for gratification when it perishes. Even the soundtrack is obnoxiously bombastic and feels out of place with the grimy horror setting. The only saving graces are some of the visual set designs, Sigourney Weaver’s impressive backwards basketball shot, and the admittedly tense underwater chase sequence. It’s not the most infuriating shark-jumping franchise sequel I’ve seen (cough, cough 2018 predator), but it’s easily one of the most baffling and poorly executed jumbled messes I’ve seen in a while.
I changed my opinion about this movie after 20 years. I think no matter how weak we think story line is, it keeps one thing which was continuation. The dots from Alien til this movie connects pretty well. However, Prequels has big issues in my opinion. Ridley Scott should have never gone back to the franchise.
"you got your clone in my alien!" "you got your alien in my clone!"
I don't understand why this movie gets so much hate. Considering what the director was left with after Alien 3, I think he did a pretty good job. The movie has a distinct visual style which perhaps clashes with the grim tone of the series, but is still beautifully shot. Sigourney Weaver delivers a fascinating, otherworldly take on the character, and while the ragtag crew of mercenaries might feel a bit cartoonish for fans of Ridley Scott’s atmospheric horror (Alien) or James Cameron’s intense action-thriller (Aliens), this movie still gives an interesting and entertaining package. Alien: Resurrection offers a visually stunning and imaginative take on the franchise and, in my opinion, doesn't deserve the level of disdain it received.
I do not understand the hate heaped on this movie. As an Alien devotee, this is one of my favorites. (The others I like are the original Alien, Prometheus and Alien:Covenant.) First, I loved Ripley's complex character. She was snarky and tender at the same time. And, of course, the hero in the end. I personally thought the chemistry with Wynona Ryder was interesting and well developed over the movie. I could do without the other characters but they were in the vein of the original ensemble. I thought the hybrid creature was pretty novel. The idea of killing your own "child" to save humanity is like a Greek tragedy. This movie had way more to say than the boring Alien 3 and Aliens. As for the love of Aliens, I can't believe they killed off the best thing about Aliens in the sequel. What a mess of a franchise. The two standouts have always been Sigourney Weaver and Michael Fassbender. Which goes to show you still need a star to make a good movie.
The script for Alien Resurrection is rough in parts. Ripley’s lines weren’t too bad, but Ron Perlman’s boorish character, Johner, was so over-the-top it stopped being funny—if it ever was, even in 1997. Dominique Pinon’s character as the wisecracking comic relief would have made far more sense in that role, instead of a mumbling dullard. Honestly, I wish they’d killed off Perlman’s character before Wincott’s, as his presence clashed with the previous movies’ ability to keep the characters you could actually care about. Instead, we were stuck with bad jokes and clunky lines for 100 minutes. The gore was excessive, bordering on gratuitous. It felt like the creators didn't respect the franchise and were just cashing in on fan loyalty. I’d give it one star if not for Sigourney Weaver, who carried the movie, and Winona Ryder, who was decent as the gullible android. That said, the idea of an android being less advanced 200 years later stretched the suspension of disbelief a bit too far for me. Though it did give Ripley the line where she should have known Call was an android because she was too humane to be human. Meh. Major annoying points, grenade launchers underwater, dumb androids, unlikelable main characters, Ripley putting a genetic misfit out of her misery with a flamethrower ugh :(, the newborn was just weird looking, unsympathetic characters being kept alive. Watch only if you're have to watch all the Alien movies, but worst in franchise by far.
I thought this was a pretty good installment to the franchise very different but I did love the swimming scene it was really good part of he movie.
It's a good freequel with a good story by Whedon n Jean r good n casting n performance r great script would be great but it's a okay n looking a glimpse of future hybrid cloning r great unlike his predecessors but it's a another fun filled thrilling ride all over with excitement n what next with a great ending I enjoyed it i believe in future another sequel is awaiting for us🤩👌🦸♂️👊🎉💫♥️😃⚡
Good Not The Best But One Of The Good Misunderstood Moments.
The fourth movie was a disgrace.
A gente tenta ver um ponto positivo em algumas coisas, mas aqui não dá... Nem a Sigourney Weaver se salva dos absurdos desse filme!
Another decent entry in the Alien franchise. It does start to feel a little predictable by now and I feel like some of the characters are only there to die. I did enjoy seeing Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder’s characters interact with one another. Other than that, I’d say it was just okay.
This movie was so horrible 🤣! I love it.. and it's funny how Ripley is just sexualising everyone in the movie, even the newborn. And the chestburster scene where the guy got shot 80 times and proceeded to kill the shooter with the use of his chestburster and everyone started spraying their guns at them is just so bad it's hilarious asf. The movie is so good.
This is the worst movie I've ever seen.
It’s fun. Ripley is interesting, and I really like the ‘villains’.
Not Bad Not Bad, But Not Too good Y of the worst alien movies is like the Ghostbusters: Afterlife of Alien
