Allure Reviews
A minor chord score underlines the overwrought drama, offering no relief from the deeply unpleasant story.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Mar 4, 2021
Beautiful yet unflinching in its depiction of abuse, Allure is a strange but provocative movie that grips viewers by the throat and pulls them straight into it
| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 6, 2021
Despite Allure not living up to its title, it still features exemplary performances by its leading actresses and colorful cinematography that elevate the mishandled screenplay.

I was expecting to be moved by the film, but instead I found myself often uncomfortable. Icky. Yes, the lead character is not very likeable (despite the fact that you learn all that she went through which goes a long way towards explaining her behaviour).
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Feb 28, 2019
A well-made, gutsy film.
| Original Score: B | Oct 24, 2018
Allure delves into some very dark and disturbing themes but handles them respectfully. This is by no means an easy watch but is certainly an important watch.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 23, 2018
Allure explores the dark side of human behavior, but instead of holding the offender accountable, it plays more like a superficial lesbian film made by men for men.
| Aug 6, 2018
Allure is an intriguing, stylishly visualised neo noir, but in the end, has neither the depth as a psychological drama, nor the suspense of a thriller, too often feeling dark and nasty for its own sake.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 31, 2018
In this well-acted but ultimately melodramatic ordeal, the only alluring thing is the title.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 21, 2018
Excavates sexual trauma to darkly fascinating and meaningful effect.
| Original Score: 4/5 | May 18, 2018
Despite its stellar performances, this feels like a psychological drama without much basis in actual human psychology.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 18, 2018
Wood delivers another impressive performance but the dry, humourless script makes it almost impossible to root for her.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 18, 2018
Teeters on the brink of pretension, but is rescued by an incendiary turn from the always interesting Evan Rachel Wood.
| Original Score: 3/5 | May 18, 2018
Allure sets itself up to be an erotic thriller, but is all the better for avoiding cheap bunny boiler tropes, and instead focusing on character.
| Original Score: 3/5 | May 17, 2018
This is bold filmmaking with a great deal to say.
| Original Score: 4.5/5 | May 15, 2018
Deeply unsettling, but ultimately unsatisfying psychological drama that over-manipulates its specious situation.
| May 15, 2018
A weak shrug of an ending leaves an interesting film feeling less than satisfying.
| Original Score: 3/5 | May 14, 2018
It's a valiant effort overall but it's also one that requires further plumbing of depths to truly pull off what is being attempted here.

Allure runs out of things to say before its hour-and-three-quarters are up. But what it does say speaks volumes about human psychology, dependency and abuse.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Apr 6, 2018
The drama is memorable but often feels grimly unpleasant rather than moving.
