Amen Reviews

Well done, well acted and well filmed, if a little long. The actor looks very much like Kurt Gerstein. I do wonder why they changed the story from the truth, that it was his sister-in-law who was put to death, not his favourite niece. Some great shots of Auschwitz/Birkenau.

The best ever historic element or subject to support thus educate the indictment of Catholic Church, Vatican, Pope and the rest of the ignorant bunch for the atrocity and holocausts happened. No better movie or documentary ever did what this movie did. It's compelling to watch the historic events materialized before and during the WWII.

Amen is Gavras at his most generally mainstream: not among his best, even against his more modern films, however there is no way to deny the movie's power, and not be stunned by the horrifyingly sad images.

Not as powerful as expected, kinda cheesy 온라인카지노추천-movie scale indeed.

A very good and interesting film.

I was that close to believing that Christians were helping Jews while being massacred by Hitler...A good example of turning the other cheek...

Amen has some very interesting themes and characters. The story is inherently frustrating because it is about a select few remarkable individuals trying to change events much larger than themselves (and that history shows they were unable to change). I wish more had happened. I also wish some of the performances and characters were deeper. It is excellent in its establishment of tone and setting but fails to deliver on the substance.

Brilliant Foreign film examining the link between the Vatican and the Third Reich, Amen roars across the screen, and conveys the ignorance of the Vatican to do nothing in regards to the German mass extermination of the Jews. Director Costa-Gavras crafts a terrific drama, one that is thoroughly engaging from start to finish due to the fact that it boasts a very well thought out story that is very interesting. Amen will surely make the viewer think, ask questions, and will surely infuriate viewers. This is nonetheless an accomplished picture, one that will definitely appeal to history buffs and to anyone looking for a great film to watch. The lead actor is terrific in the part he places, and is the only one who sees and tries in vain to warn of the atrocities of the Nazis. With some stunning performances, this is an engaging picture that ranks among the finest foreign films that I have seen in quite some time. With an effective story, and exceptional direction, Amen is a richly detailed drama that is unforgettable due to its story. Brilliant, taut and thrilling, yet dramatic in its style, Costa-Gravas picture is exceptional in the way it tackles its subject. It's no secret the Vatican turned a blind eye to the Nazi Atrocities being committed in occupied territories, and this film really goes in depth on that. One thing that does stand out is the lead characters realization that what is occurring in Europe under Nazi rule is terribly wrong, and he tries desperately to tell his superiors to help stop the mass extermination of Jews. Even though Amen is a dark film by nature, it does have a glimmer of hope in the sense that one person had a conscience to do the right thing in the face of adversity.

The negligence and indifference caused by politics is perfectly depicted in Amen. And yes, by politics, I'm also referring to the Vatican. Amen shows how easily part of the Holocaust could've been stopped if it weren't for politics and the heedlessness of everyone, taking aside Kurt Gerstein and cardinal Riccardo. The empty/full train sequences are simply marvelous, with just that, the film is amazing and determining.

Amen is a riveting movie, directed by the Master Costa - Gavras, that portrays how disappointingly indifferent Catholic church was before the Holocaust, which was killing millions of Jews and converts. Amen is a brave film that points out the complicity between the Pope, Mussolini and the Nazis. The Pope owed a lot to Mussolini and he couldn't raise his voice because that would've meant war and destruction to The Vatican, the lost of their valuable possessions. They knew it and they preferred to save the work of art before saving human lives. Great picture.

a film with great potential. visually compelling, with fantastic locations and a strong, capable cast. ultimately though, it felt to superficial and simple. it got considerably better near the end, but i wish it had really delved into the heart of its issue and characters and really explored something new rather than rehash a stale pov that is more apologetic than informative. i wanted to see the ss officer and the priest struggle with themselves and their morality vs. mortality, but they were standing on figurative milk boxes for the whole film. there was no room for growth, change or thematic exploration. everything this film had to say, it seemed to scream from its first shot.

This is my second Costa Gavras film in less than a week, the frist being Z, and I loved both. Amen shows us how the world, and particularly, the Catholic church refused to act, even when given evidence, against the annihilation of the Jews by the Nazis. Set in a story about a Vatican priest and an SS Officer who are trying to tell the Pope and the American ambassador, plus some other people, that Jews are being gassed by the Nazis in the multiple thousands per day this film exposes the sad truth that the world did not care enough. Look for the same actor playing the main Nazi as in the film Inglorious Basterds. One can see why Costa Gavras and Quentin Tarantino chose him.

"Amen" leaves a distinct impression. The film arouses anger and sadness, and it levels its emotional fury at the moral cowardice of the authorities who were either reluctant or unwilling to intercede. On its own terms, "Amen" is a memorably film

Interesting movie about the Vatican´s role during WWII. The opening scene was very powerful. It's not a run of the mill anti-Nazi film. It's about a real person, Gerstein, who was a high ranking Nazi, but who did not want to participate in the exterminations. This movie is not well made, although it must have involved a lot of expense and effort. The acting was poor.

Thought provoking as this is, the absolute ignorance of Pope Pius XII and his pose, frustration from the viewers perspective as well as Ulrich Tukar) and Mathieu Kassovitz characters. Excellent performances from all including Ulrich MÃ 1/4he (R.I.P.).

Behind the scenes look at the Nazi story. Very thought provoking to see these things that we don't hear about in history class.

The idea is good and the story is interesting and important but the movie is awkward in his structure. It s not that the realization is that bad because it is not but the flow is kinda weird. What is good is that it touches to a subject not many know about and that s the positive point. The cinematography and the acting has a good level though but the structure of the story is really awkward .In fact it is not a bad movie but it is not the kind you recommend in first place.it remains a courageous movie though. We need much more like this but much more catchy and insightful. Now the importance of the story remains a first priority as it reveals a story we didn't know about hidden part of the Nazi regime and the second war.It is very sad and painful especially toward the attitude of catholic church about the jews.

This is, by far, my favorite historical subject. Just when I thought that I have seen it all, and learned it all, another view of that horrific time comes to light. It's appalling to believe that the world stood still while millions of Jews were being sent to death camps. It's even more apalling (and blows my mind) that so many COULD have tried to stop it, but didn't due to political reasons and more. Although this film shows how the Catholic Church refused to stand up to Hitler, it also shows how a few were willing to die for the sake of humanity...including an actual SS Officer. Don't look for flash, excitement, and gore here. This is an intense, thought provoking drama. Well done!
