What to Know

Critics Consensus

Lackluster and ill-conceived, American Psycho 2 ditches its predecessor's clever satire in favor of shallow slasher tropes and unconvincing attempts at dark humor.

Norman Wilner Toronto Star Having survived the infamous Patrick Bateman, a plucky co-ed becomes a slayer in her own right in this entirely unnecessary sequel. Apr 1, 2025 Full Review Stephen Dalton Times (UK) Overcooked cash-in slasher sequel adds a female serial killer but misses the point. Apr 1, 2025 Full Review Nathan Rabin AV Club Anonymously directed by Morgan J. Freeman, Psycho 2 trades its predecessor's sharp social satire for a mixture of dumbed-down irony, groan-inducing black comedy, and gratuitous bloodshed. Mar 31, 2025 Full Review Film4 Staff Film4 This inoffensive and relatively tame so-called sequel is nothing more than formulaic campus frolics with a light twist and just enough surprises to keep the viewer's attention. Apr 4, 2025 Full Review David Bleiler & David Gorgos Philadelphia Daily News A cheap sequel that has about as much in common with the satiric first film as "Cinderella 2" does. Apr 1, 2025 Full Review Rob Hunter Slashfilm It's clearly just a poorly written film about a "movie" sociopath – trading believability and credibility for "fun" – but the forced connection to American Psycho highlights its own lack of personality, wit, and relevance. Rare T This is way better than people make it out to be, and the reason is as others have already mentioned: the inevitable comparison with its predecessor because of the title, while in reality this is more of a spinoff than a sequel. American Psycho II has all elements of a successful movie, and it indeed is enjoyable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Melissa L I haven't any idea why this movie was so poorly rated. I loved it! Mila Kunis nailed it. As this has been classifed a "dark comedy," it certainly lives up to that name. If you like a little comedy with your slash, you have to view this! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/08/24 Full Review Name N Not as good as the first but still a great movie with a great soundtrack. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Lucas t Absolutely Awful, why did they make this awful sequel to an iconic movie. 0.7/10. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/07/24 Full Review Liam D This is just a baffling sequel that has a script of a wildly different kind of film they slap the name "American Psycho" on Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Gorptholemew T 🍀 0/10 Average, Billie Eilish fan. This movie makes no sense at all. The real burning question of this movie is why was it made? Grade F Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
