American Psycho 2 Reviews

This inoffensive and relatively tame so-called sequel is nothing more than formulaic campus frolics with a light twist and just enough surprises to keep the viewer's attention.

Having survived the infamous Patrick Bateman, a plucky co-ed becomes a slayer in her own right in this entirely unnecessary sequel.

| Apr 1, 2025

A cheap sequel that has about as much in common with the satiric first film as "Cinderella 2" does.

Overcooked cash-in slasher sequel adds a female serial killer but misses the point.

It's clearly just a poorly written film about a "movie" sociopath – trading believability and credibility for "fun" – but the forced connection to American Psycho highlights its own lack of personality, wit, and relevance.

American Psycho 2 — or rather, The Girl Who Wouldn’t Die — is a strange, entertaining and surprising little film. Bloody and funny and twisty and turny and Kunis pulls it all off.

Anonymously directed by Morgan J. Freeman, Psycho 2 trades its predecessor's sharp social satire for a mixture of dumbed-down irony, groan-inducing black comedy, and gratuitous bloodshed.

In the end this campy chiller crucifies the American success ethic with more vigor than elan.

Unscary and unfunny.

As a continuation, American Psycho 2 fails to live up to its beloved predecessor. [...] But as a campy and quirky “good for her” comedy with a slasher element? That is something this disparaged sequel has going for itself.

The movie is neither frightening nor funny; in fact, it's extremely boring.

Oddly amusing.

Ignoring Morgan J. Freeman’s bad direction and Karen Craig and Alex Sanger’s clichéd script, the absolute worst part is that I don’t think anyone involved in the production had actually seen American Psycho.

William Shatner, as a pompous professor, is the sole bright spot.

| Original Score: 0.5/4 | Feb 24, 2003

One of the oddest and most inexplicable sequels in movie history.

The first mistake, I suspect, is casting Shatner as a legendary professor and Kunis as a brilliant college student--where's Pauly Shore as the rocket scientist?

| Original Score: 1/4 | Sep 17, 2002

It's another stale, kill-by-numbers flick, complete with blade-thin characters and terrible, pun-laden dialogue.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Jul 19, 2002

There's suspension of disbelief and then there's bad screenwriting...this film packs a wallop of the latter.
