Animal Factory Reviews
This movie was not overlooked, it just does not cut or resemble what people will compare it to. If you're looking for a terrible way for a movie to end, this is so for you! So much potential, crushed unlike the garbage at the end.
It's just entertaining from beginning to end, definitely a dude movie. Super Dope!
Excellent flick that covers the bases of incarcerated society, ANIMAL FACTORY is very well cast, directed and produced with Willem Dafoe in the role of the main character. For comparisons [but with a considerably more violent theme], FELON is another movie in the same genre that is very similar. ANIMAL FACTORY is an excellent movie!
Really good film. Flew under the radar in terms of the mainstream as its not talked about at all. Massively overlooked.
Interesting American male prison drama.
Low budget prison drama with a collection of talent that can make it fly. Was released after Shawshank Redemption so may be overlooked and underrated by some.
Solid prison drama. Dafoe is awesome as the con-mentor, and he's surrounded by a whole host of great character actors.
Willem DaFoe carries the group of actors through this one and if nothing else this is a display of how far one strong actor can boost your film. There isn't really anything wrong with Animal Factory really but there isn't anything amazing here either outside of DaFoe. If you are in the mood for a prison flick and your copy of shawshank redenption is MIA then this will scratch the itch.
Not a bad movie, tough story , great actors make it believable.
It has it's unique signature distinct to many similar plots. Dafore excels as usual and makes the live wire.
This Steve Buscemi directed crime drama is not of the same calibre as say, Shawshank, but it offers some originality and is much more easily digestible.
An adequate drama for those who like spending time watching people doing time. Incorporates most of the usual elements which make prison life such an interesting subject including attempted rape, racism and escape plans. Nonetheless, I got the impression that it rushed through these key aspects in order to keep the length condensed. This film almost exists as a summary or overview of the incarceration experience rather than a compelling narrative. Consequently, many of the film's aspects are not developed and thus lack impact despite their violent and disturbing nature. Also, characters and their interaction with each other are so one-dimensional that you don't really have the opportunity to like, dislike or understand anyone's personality (apart from maybe the attempted rapist....not hard to dislike him). Only for excessive fans of prison dramas but 'Prison Break' season one, 'The Green Mile' and 'Shawshank Redemption' should still take priority.
A strong & intense little film taking place in the prison world. The film is very low key concentrating on characters & showing how tough & awful the carceral life is. The film is never going into extremes but rather plays like an almost documentary following the inmates, the traffics, the sexual assaults, the bullying.... It's a gritty little drama but very efficient.
Film "Animal Factory" with greats such as Mickey Rourke, Danny Trejo, Willem Dafoe and the film's protagonist Edward Furlong played all just cool!!!Movie quite reveals about the life of prisoners in jail!!! this film main hero lucky to have met directly with the authority, or have been all bad for the main character!!!My score to the film 4 out of 5!!
I'm not sure what the critics saw in this banal prison movie. It's boring and predictable, the acting is subpar and they somehow even managed to make Danny Trejo uninteresting. The only highlight (or lowlight?) was Tom Arnold shoving his middle finger up Edward Furlong's butt. 3.5/10.
The potential is there but it loses it's way on the way to a cop out ending--Watchable, but ludicrous!!
Kicks off as a hackneyed Frank Darabont ripoff but quickly transitions into a raw under-the-radar prison epic. A stellar cast with powerful discharge, misaffected by few exceptions (ahem...Tom Arnold) and thoroughly boosted by others (Mickey Rourke in drag). Highly recommended prison noir.
Completely wrongly cast, like putting Gary Glitter on the phones at Childline. Furlong once had promise and now he looks like a fat lesbian.
