Aporia Reviews
A sci-fi movie for people who don't usually like the genre and prefer their dramas to be full of well-drawn, relatable human beings. And on those terms, it really works.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 9, 2024
Aporia is unnotable, it has little to say, and less to do. Its characters are unremarkable as are its consequences, which is a real pity for what is quite a nifty premise

Swallowing this development doesn’t take a suspension of disbelief -- it requires a complete severing with both an ax and a chainsaw. But those who can get past the mental hemorrhaging will be treated to a thoughtful and even startling drama.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 16, 2023
Aporia takes chances with its story and forces viewers to contemplate tough questions, for better or worse.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Aug 29, 2023
As we have seen many times over, messing with the past can do damage to the future, and Aporia is saying nothing fresh nor inventive enough to be a time travel movie to go back for.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 24, 2023
There’s a lot to admire in the key performances on display, particularly from Greer, who is given a chance to lead this story and reckon with a number of emotional states related to the evolving understanding of her changing reality.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Aug 18, 2023
A lot happens in the film’s first 30 minutes and it makes the story feel like it’s moving at an unusually quick pace. There isn’t much time to process events, but getting a lot out of the way early does create a deep exploration of guilt and consequence.

Bolstered by strong performances, the film maintains emotional investment in its what-if scenario while keeping its science-fiction concept about playing God rooted in bittersweet reality.
| Aug 16, 2023
Aporia is a solid film that understands its limitations and does not seek to reinvent the wheel. The themes land because of the film's focus on drama.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 15, 2023
Aporia needn’t stay one step ahead of smart viewers to keep us intrigued and off-balance, glued to how these flawed, well-intentioned characters use their irrevocable power and face the consequences.
| Aug 14, 2023
Where the narrative goes is fiendishly clever, complete with mind-bending twists that carry a properly moving kick, largely because we identify so strongly with each of the characters.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 13, 2023
The premise of Aporia is extremely far-fetched and more than a little ludicrous. If you can accept it at face value without picking it apart too much, the movie will provoke you intellectually and emotionally.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Aug 12, 2023
If Aporia’s airiness gives the story a bit of distance from the world we’re living in right now, the film nonetheless does what good science fiction is supposed to, forcing viewers to bring the future conundrums it raises to their present.
| Original Score: 7.8/10 | Aug 11, 2023
Light on the thrills and keen on contemplation, but it’s nice to encounter a multiverse that actually makes you think once in a while.

It’s [Judy] Greer who shines the brightest; amidst all of Sophie’s turmoil, Greer delivers a tender and relatable performance that opts for modesty over histrionics. It might just be her best dramatic performance yet.

Gets a great performance from its star Judy Greer.
| Original Score: B- | Aug 11, 2023
A contemplative, consequence-focused science fiction, brought together by a capable cast and a unique take on the dangers of altering time.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 10, 2023
It’s a film that considers that life may be less about what you have or can get, and more about what you are willing to give up.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Aug 10, 2023
This ... film ... establishes a tricky moral dilemma and actually follows through on examining the questions of power, temptation, and responsibility that the notion raises.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Aug 10, 2023
A deeply silly time-travel weepie buoyed solely by the soapy warmth of its performances.
