Arcadian Reviews

May 1, 2025

A father (Nicholas Cage) struggles to protect his sons from monsters and hormones in a world where most of the population has succombed to a deadly virus. For fans of "crazy" Cage performances, you won't find this here. He and the other actors commit to muted performances. Some might call them stiff but I appreciated the tone. I have the same questions for this film I had for The Quiet Place. If you know the weakness of the creatures then they should be able to target, manipulate, and eliminate. Still, I enjoyed this apocalyptic film and the portrayal of the monsters is frightening. Except for the wheel roll. That was hilarious.

Muy poco envolvente, me pareció lenta y sin fondo

This is one of the worst movies ever! 90% of the damn scenes are shot in complete darkness and NOTHING is visible. WHY! Is it because it is a low cost movie, or is it because the producers do not know any better. Probably an above average movie, would the movie viewers have been able to actually see what is going on. A DARK movie in every sense and it is utterly frustrating. C'mon, producers, spend a little more on doing it right. We all understand the concept of night and day, and us humans, do NOT have night vision. Therefore a little help during dark night shoots will go a long way to making a movie worth while watching. Seriously!!

Geschichte ist nicht schlecht, aber Kameraführung und Schnitt sind katastrophal. War es so ein low-budget, dass sie sich nicht mal Handys (mit denen es gefilmt wurde) mit Bildstabilisierung leisten konnten?

This was a complete waste of time. No clear plot, just too much time knowing something is after the family. Zero backstory. A weak link to another family who seem to have suffered none of the ill effects of family #1. Then creatures you can barely see due to too many shadows, and one son disappears, I guess into a cave. Then a Dad that somehow has been attacked, as good as dead. Creatures reappear. Neighbours won't help and attack the first family. I kept fast forwarding hoping to get past the wasted scenes to catch a sense of the story. But it was all about fighting off creatures and a dad who somehow springs back up to life and helps boy #1 not feel so guilty about abandoning his brother and dad to spend time getting to know the girl in the family at family #2. This looks like a loose storyline a group of 15 year olds dreamed up in an afternoon and then decided would be fun to turn into their own horror film. I cannot believe someone decided to pay to produce this film. Just stopped watching. Already spent too much time on this that I will never get back.

Entertainment that is a horror/fiction option, which “drinks” a lot from the source of A QUIET PLACE (2018), but does not perform as well as this one, with noticeable flaws. It has its originality and creativity, but it does not develop it, leaving the viewer with a “wanting more” that possibly will not happen. However, it hits the family requirement, and that is what matters after the apocalypse…

Pretty good. Tense and not too long. The creatures look stupid. Somehow remind me of weird looking Muppets.

The idea of a small farm like aesthetic with the family just trying to survive with a threat, which comes out in the night isn’t anything new to the horror genre but I really liked what they did with the story. The father (Nicholas Cage) was trying to make sure his kids survived and knew what to do in a bad situation. The monsters were fairly unique in how they attacked, they hunted in packs but weren’t that deadly on their own, they looked primitive but weren’t actually intelligent. It was creepy as hell what they did to the other farms mum. Overall it’s a decent horror which did leave it open for a sequel which I hope they do.

The creatures were really goofy, up to a point where the movie becomes silly. Wouldn't recommend tbh.

I think this movie deserves a little more attention based mostly on the creative aliens used sparingly but effectively. Sometimes less is more, and this is THAT kind of movie. Certainly the acting and direction are solid and competent enough to warrant a further look into this world and develop it similarly to A Quiet Place or even an Alien movie (excluding any Alien vs. Predator films). I think that keeping the aliens at some distance helps enhance the fear.

Poor acting, poor graphics, poor story line. There was no no explanation on the "monsters". None at all... how or why they are there, what motivates them.... nothing! No explanation of what happened to collapse society... Nothing! The monster design itself looks like something out of the "Dark Crystal" / "muppet" error. Don't waste your valuable time watching this movie.

What a monumental load of twatwaffle. Thank goodness for the FF button.

Even though the movie's plot was a little slow, it was still a really good film, and the story and characters were incredibly intense, making the movie really enjoyable to watch.

It was a very quick movie with no real story or character development. Left a lot unexplained and most situations throughout the movie didn’t make sense. Had high hopes for it after watching the trailer but unfortunately was highly disappointed.

Doesn't explain enough about the creatures and what started it

Nicolas Cage stars in this horror movie set on a non distance future when civilization collapses and the survivors are under attack from these new monsters. Is refreshing to see new kind of monsters beside zombies. Nicolas plays a dad and his 2 teenage sons trying to survive the new waste land. Story is kind of slow. It’s an ok movie 🍿🍿🍿/5 on Hulu

Approached with low expectations, the Arcadian experience was thrilling and grabbed my attention. Arcadian is a post apocalyptic monster thriller that does well in the genre it's in, but isn't without it's flaws. Chilling scenes with excellent cinematography keep viewers on edge and curious about how the characters will survive. I was disappointed with the overall design of the creatures, but not disappointed at the film holistically. An endorsed, "Worth a Watch" film.

Given a bigger budget for monster spfx this film would have been horrifying and amazing, instead of a dark muppet show.

I'm not sure why they felt the need to make this after A Quiet Place. It was well made but small scale. Not sure why this movie is so dim but I strongly suggest you turn the brightness up on your television, otherwise it is hard to see what's happening. Nic Cage is more like a supporting role.

Plainly bad movie. No plot to speak of. Shaky cam for the sake of shaky cam. Five minutes in I complained to the wife about it and it didnt get any better. Acting is serviceable for the young actors, but I would describe Nick's participation as "minimal." Saw another review that said they must have been paying Nick by the word. That checks out. Plot is basically watch these people try to survive against this horribly thought out laughable creature. Is it an alien? Is it a mutation? Don't know and the writer/director can't be bothered to tell you. What is its primary kill mechanism? You won't figure that out either. Does it bite? What it the purpose of the snapping jaws other than to look cool on camera? Spoiler alert: it doesn't. It's detractive. Does it rip you apart with claws? How many joints are in its arms? Cause in the door scene it just kept unfolding. How can it grow its claw to 5 ft long? We'll never know cause its only shown that once and never mentioned again. Does it digest you with its umbrella stomach? Again shown because someone thought it sounded cool and would look cool on camera but makes no sense, is never explored, and is never mentioned again. And How do the bugs fit in? What is their purpose or significance? It's never explained either. Don't bother.
