Ash Reviews

May 17, 2025

Horrible! Acting bad, direction bad, writting bad. So many plot holes it looks like everyone died whio was in this and they has to paste together parts of a bad made for syfy tv show. I dont know what the budget was. ut for special affects it couldnt have been more than $100. The scene with the monster at the end was so badly made it looked like something out of a middle schoolplay. The director should be barred from ever making a movie again. FlyLo has zero skills in movie making.

How does this have a 72 critics score. Unsettling.

7.8/10 - What starts out as one of the coolest atmospheric build ups I鈥檝e ever scene for a horror sci-fi slowly unravels into a very obvious mash up of ideas taken from more memorable adaptations of the genre. However this does not take away from the fact that within all of the neon flooded sets and synth driven soundtracks happens to be a very unique and trippy experience that I found to be well worth the hour and a half spent on it. Outside of the overall eery tension created by the lack of dialogue in the earlier stages of this movie, the standout horror element is brief flashes of gore which manage to instill an underlying fear for what exactly it is that鈥檚 going on within this 鈥楾he Thing鈥 inspired universe. While the movie feels like it takes a while to build up to that answer, it also feels extremely worth it outside of the very obvious references and slightly cheesy special effects. Definitely a movie better enjoyed in an altered state of consciousness if you can handle a little horror while you鈥檙e high.

Ash is a sensorial experience with the grittiness of Alien, slickness of Blade Runner, and occasional campiness of Barbarella. Acting isn't the greatest, but let yourself be taken on the journey. Watch it with an edible or two. Excellent score by Flying Lotus.

From the first few delivered lines, it's clear the acting is under par and further deserved by the director. Such a waste of Aaron Paul. There's no logic to things that transpire, framed in with a cast of emotional dimwits, except for Paul, who is the only one to deliver a believable character until some of the worst CGI hijacks his character. I sincerely hope this director takes the next transport far away from filmmaking.

Ash is a very mixed film in the sense that the highs are very high and the lows are very low. The characters are not very interesting while the story is quite predictable. Everything that isn't, doesn't make sense to me at least. On the other hand the technical aspects are quite good. The direction has style and creates a great atmosphere. The cinematography is also quite good with great lighting. The score is perfect. I loved every second of it even though I couldn't always make out whether a certain noise was a sound effect the characters heard or a music cue. The production design is good, but with low budget visual effects and small sets there's not enough space to really explore the world. The cast is the main reason I watched this film and they did not disappoint. Ash is predictable and has uninteresting characters, but it was worth it watching the film because of the unbelievably amazing score.

This was absolute slop. It steals multiple concepts from better movies and mashes it together with an a.i. written feel. The pacing and editing are awful. The main character gives Gal Gadot a run for her money for terrible wooden faced "acting". She even does the horrible silent yelling thing where she yells no but her face barely moves.

Main female lead鈥檚 acting made me laugh. But it seemed like the creators of this movie didn鈥檛 care, they only seemed to focus on the actress looking good, with her hair and make up done the entire film

Didn't make it all the way through this one watched the second half on fast forward, weird LSD like lighting through out, bad uninteresting dialogue. Disjointed action scenes. Aaron Paul did his best but it was too poorly done for him to carry it.

Surreal and vibrant set with a fresh and creative directing style. I really enjoyed Flying Lotus's approach to this sci-fi thriller. The sound design adds a fantastic dimension to the film as well.

Quite possibly the worst sci-fi movie of the year. Terrible script, terrible story, bad acting, and stupid ending. I can鈥檛 believe I didn鈥檛 shut off this movie after the first 15 or 30 minutes. I should have. Instead I watched the whole thing. I regret that now. Trust me, it doesn鈥檛 get any better. Don鈥檛 waste your time on this one.

This movie just movies too slowly. There just wasn't enough going on. I fell asleep twice trying to watch this. I like the movie "Life" way better. This movie just took to long to go anywhere. If you're into slo-burn scifi with no action, then you might like it. Hell, "Pandorum" with Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster was the movie this one could have been. This one needed the action those 2 films had. Hell, that's why all the Alien movies had been good. Action....

Just another B Sci-fi with bad writing, and bad acting. Totally previsible. The only good thing about it maybe are the psychedelic visuals. 4 out of 10 stars.

It's not a groundbreaking film but it's still pretty good. It has an inmersive atmosphere and the visuals are cool. It could feel slow paced to some, but I really don't have a problem with it, the tension and suspense was good. The climax was kinda mid tho, I wish there was more body horror because those random creepy flashbacks make no sense without it. Anyways, it's worth a watch.

(ENGLISH) When a sci-fi film starts evoking classics like Alien, Event Horizon, or The Thing, you naturally brace yourself for something powerful. The problem is when the final product fails to capture any of the magic that made those films great. Ash tries 鈥 it looks stylish, the atmosphere is there鈥 but the script and overall execution fall flat. The setup is intriguing: a ship, a lone survivor, a lurking threat鈥 but it quickly becomes clear there鈥檚 not much depth behind it. The tension doesn鈥檛 quite land, and while the oppressive tone works at first, it fades away through uninspired twists and a rhythm that disconnects more than it hooks. Eiza Gonz谩lez does what she can with a role that barely gives her room to breathe 鈥 her commitment is evident, but it鈥檚 not enough to carry the film. Flying Lotus leans heavily into the aesthetic, into the sensory experience 鈥 and at times, that鈥檚 appreciated. But without narrative weight, no matter how polished it looks, it鈥檚 hard to stay engaged. There are hints of themes like memory, paranoia, and identity鈥 but they鈥檙e not developed, just thrown in the mix. In the end, Ash is a failed attempt at a space odyssey with personality. It鈥檚 not terrible, not at all 鈥 but it鈥檚 also not memorable. One more for the pile, and a wasted opportunity.

It starts off slow, it finds an interesting rhythm and than moves into creature feature territory for the end

May 5, 2025

Slow and boring with pointless scenes of frenzied violence and dodgy looking SFX. Looking at Eliza beautiful face is the only reason I made it to the end. Completely forgettable!

May 5, 2025

Same old Alien song. BTW, how about "us" been the space parasites?

May 4, 2025

es genial la actuaci贸n de Eiza, aunque la peli sea vueltera te atrapa, giros esperados y cl谩sicos pero con una buena producci贸n (el gui贸n es una locuraaa) la banda sonora incre铆ble 馃憤

Wonderful movie if you like to watch expressionless main character do nothing for 2hours apart from looking away with her mouth open. No scenario, no dialogue, no acting skills. Luckily main actress has her make-up and hair done all the time, it's so important when all your crew died and you are trying to survive.
