Cuban Rafters Reviews
A documentary which is so raw that you can't say anything against it. It's a hard trip to take. 7/10
First of all I am amazed by the level of access the filmmakers had with the balseros. It was sad but interesting to see these people wanting a better life than they had in Cuba only to find it is worse for many of them in the U.S. after a while the film started to get a little tedious also.
How each person can decide their future; even if they are given the same opportunities, it doesn't guarantee the same results.
This movie was interesting. I watched it "instantly" using Netflix on my XBOX 360... If I hadn't seen it that way, I don't think I would have ordered the DVD. I liked how the film spanned 10 or so years of the lives of people involved. Made you feel connected with them. Wife and I liked it.
Excelente documental. Crudo, emotivo, es como un balde de agua fria. La musicalizacion es excelente. Al menos 7 años de trabajo. Haganse un favor y veanlo.
Ambitious, but uneven documentary about the stories of five different Cuban families, their dangerous exodus to the United States and their different paths of integration over the course of eight years. Some saddening, gripping and often refreshing accounts of how these people worked hard to survive amidst their circumstances, but the narrative is rather jumpy and one may lose focus at one point or another over the series of events. Still, it justifies a viewing for those who want to see what Cubans have been going through to make it all the way to the US.
Great documentary... I had the priviledge to view with my boyfriend, who is an immigrant from Cuba who has been here less than a year. It was interesting for me to see the process he went through to get here, and for him to explain certain aspects of the film to me in greater detail. He came by winning the visa lottery, but knew people who lost their lives to the sea and sharks, and also has friends who have made it from Cuba to Miami in literally an innertube. A very moving and real film experience.
Wow. This movie really helped me see what these people go through to get here. It is interesting how there lives turn out so dramatically different.
Im amazed at the internal drive some people have. In these cases, the will to risk life and limb, leaving loved ones behind, possibly forever, for a better life. Well done.
Great film. Moving, wonderful editing, and fantastic music, Balseros gives you a chance to see the immigrant experience with new eyes. Directed by two Catalan journalists.
Very moving. I love seeing the different possibilities available to everyone and how they all took different paths.
