After the fact watched Harris Dickinson in Trust, Where the Crawdads Sing and Iron claw, 2023 and 2024. Try this movie 2017. I liked the movie but the ending kind of left me, huh. It's just going to end like this. Maybe it's one of those movies, use your imagination for the ending, be what you think it should be.

While the film aims to depict the raw, unfiltered reality of a young man grappling with his sexuality in a hostile environment, it falls short in its execution.

Far less complex than it tries to be but Harris Dickinson's performance is stunningly raw.

A dark coming out of age film. Its portrayal of a trouble teen age life depicts real life social issues.

I found the movie to be boring. The character didn't change through the course of the film. While many have applauded the lead's performance, I found it stiff with his face rarely chanhing from one scene to the next. The worst part of the movie was the ending was telegraphed from the moment he asked his "un"friends if they'd smoke weed with a gay guy. The violence was expected and gratuitous.

This is the worst film I have ever seen

The intentions from the filmmakers feel quite earnest and the performance from Dickinson captures the viewer but this flick wanders for most of it's runtime. It has some building blocks for a real story but doesn't have a whole cohesive narrative anywhere to be found.

Bury your gays trope by straight woman. Terrible ending that offers no closure whatsoever. I like open ended endings but this ain't it karen. Harris did a great job with what he was given but that was all him

Where the movie ended is where it should have begun...a punk kid who is struggling with real questions about his sexuality goes through a shitty summer...he dabbles in sex with men, treats his family like shit at their lowest point, almost gets caught with a guy and watches his almost-lover get beat up. He takes a coward's way out and as the movie ends we just get to watch him feel bad about it and watch fireworks...no resolve, no arc, this will be his pitiful and cowardly life according to this film. Why can't we see him triumph, face up to someone, show SOME evidence of a spine? Very disappointing film.

it's okay. very good cinematography but the plot is very bland. it could have been so much better

Mysterious, gripping, and beautifully filmed, this movie flows like a deep, dark ocean it is sometimes set against. Stellar direction and actors, this movie had me questioning what was coming up next throughout. Brilliant.

As a gay film, there's some raw reality to how gay men used to hook up and cruise. This story feels unrestricted and almost too easy for the protagonist. I suppose drugs can affect the mind but would the choices made which potentially puts his closet status out for just weed is questionable. All in all, there's no satisfaction or moral to be found here. Truly just turmoil.

I can not even begin to describe how badly this movie ends. I feel ripped off. The writer/director teases with film school quality shots that lead nowhere, and I do mean nowhere. It was a complete waste of time. The film says nothing new, and it could have. Horrible.

It was OK. I didn't believe some of the parts going on in the movie. It seemed forced and fake. Y'all need to see a film called 'Ekaj' now THAT film was fire and tells it like it is.

Boring, mean-spirited and aimless

I rarely write reviews, but this film demanded one. As a gay man, I found this movie to be painfully homophobic, especially in its denouement where for whatever reason the protagonist decides to entrap an innocent gay guy with his friends, rob him, and kill him. Even absent that grotesque event, the film is sorely lacking. What makes LGBT films authentic is the way they capture that fundamental sense of yearning and loneliness. This movie, and especially its lead, utterly fail to do that. The lead relies on his looks and glum countenance as he sulks around and never truly grows or faces head on the uncertainty of his attraction to men. This "beautiful sadness," as critics have called it, is surface-deep and trite. The main character is in fact so introverted that we never get any real glimpse into the struggle he's having or his particular motivations. I give this two stars instead of one because the cinematography, at least, is pretty decent, and some performances (like that of the mother) stand out.
