Beaches Reviews
In Beaches, Miss Midler and Miss Hershey wrangle, forgive, embrace, part, and reunite until I found their antics difficult to comprehend, difficult to believe, and finally difficult to bear.

Once in a while it's okay to enjoy a movie for its own sake -- to let it work you over emotionally, to make you cry when you know you're supposed to cry and laugh when you know a laugh is coming. Beaches is such a movie.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Aug 8, 2022
The movie is a must-see for those who love Midler. It is a project that not only allows her to be herself, it demands it.

I prefer Midler in these sorts of roles.
| Original Score: 3.0/4.0 | Sep 2, 2020
Beaches celebrates our friendships. And it's not afraid to be schmaltzy.

You've seen this four million times before but not with Midler wisecracking and singing and shaking her way through a whole movie -- or with Hershey as a pulp vision of monied beauty.

Barbara Hershey is wasted in a boring role.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Mar 23, 2018
Beaches, despite its flaws, delivers an appealing message on the enduring quality of friendship.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 23, 2018
Anything for a laugh, anything for a tear, and nothing much authentic.

As a film, Beaches is a contradictory mishmash of moods and intentions. However, the movie's weaknesses are the record's strengths.

Beaches epitomises the sort of triple-strength, three-hankie work you can expect from American women with three names and gives the lie to those who thought they stopped making women's pic heartstring-tuggers.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 23, 2018
This drama is at its best when Midler gives free rein to her character rather than when it slips into schmaltz.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 23, 2018
Beaches is bloodless, and Garry Marshall's direction, which might have given it style, is completely competent and entirely without personality.
| Mar 22, 2018
For all of its insistence on the open, even gushing, expression of feeling, Beaches finally seems a little bit sneaky.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Mar 22, 2018
Beaches is a trite, maudlin, and terribly superficial effort of the sub-made-for-온라인카지노추천 quality, an insult to anyone who has ever befriended another human being.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 22, 2018
Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey give lively performances, but the screenplay is dreary.
| Mar 22, 2018
Midler's singing is the only pleasant part of the film. The rest of it you've seen and heard before -- and better.

Make some popcorn and get out the Kleenex.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jan 2, 2011
Garry Marhsall's unbearabaly schmaltzy and stereotyical melodrama contrasts a brassy Jewish singer with an elegant WASPy socialite that even actresses like Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey cannot elevate or rescue.
| Original Score: D+ | Aug 10, 2010
The film's oily overdefinition of various class and cultural categories is strident enough to betray a condescending attitude toward the audience.
