HOLY SHITTT PEAK MOVIE LOVED IT

Jan 25, 2025

This and "A Hard Day's Night (1964)" perfectly depict how much The Beatles were a huge thing. No matter how many years pass, people will still be talking about The Beatles in their impact in music and pop culture. With this film, it's a lot of fun, humorous, and innocent. I laughed too hard when I watched both this and "A Hard Day's Night (1964)." It's highly recommended for any Beatle fan. It surprisingly still holds up even after 60 years.

As a Beatles fanatic, I really enjoyed this feature film. But, if you already had watched it, you would know that some topics, as I should say, have aged badly, to say the least. It is funny, full of juicy action, and, being a musical with The Beatles as the stars of the show, it has a great soundtrack. I hate to say this as a Beatles fan, but I would recommend this to only other Beatles fans, for some featured things have aged, and the movie industry and what a revolutionary movie looks like has changed a lot since 1965, and would not be a very fun watch for newer generations, except the kids who are Beatles fans.

The first Beatles movie "A Hard Day's Night" satirized aspects of the Beatles and their fame; this second, more expensive movie is essentially a silly romp around the world. The story begins with a religious cult in Asia about to perform a human sacrifice, but the ring she was supposed to be wearing ended up being shipped to Ringo Starr, who puts it on not knowing what it is. The cult leaders travel to London and find the Beatles, and seeing Ringo wearing the ring, decides to sacrifice him instead, so the Beatles run around Britain, to the Swiss Alps, and to the Bahamas to flee the cult. In the meantime the Beatles perform various songs. This could and should have been funnier, but the movie is only mildly amusing. The Monkees in their 온라인카지노추천 show had similar crazy adventures interspersed with their songs, but that show actually had good writing and even people who didn't like their music found the show entertaining.

I came into this expecting a sequel to "A Hard Day's Night" and I'm probably not alone there. Let me be the first to tell you this is NOTHING LIKE "Hard Day's Night". It couldn't be more different. While the story to that one is relatively simple, the lads are preparing to do a televised concert and hijinks ensue, this one is...interesting. It's not a mockumentary but rather an action comedy jukebox musical. The story goes that somehow Ringo ends up in possession of a prized ring owned by a religious cult. The ring represents who is chosen as a sacrifice and so much of the movie is them trying to kidnap and murder Ringo. Once he figures out what's going on, Ringo becomes reasonably paranoid and the Beatles end up traveling all around the world trying to escape them. It's a cat-and-mouse game. The movie is delightfully absurd and for whatever reason occasionally includes title cards and subtitles (my personal favorite being: "The Exciting Adventure of Paul on the Floor". It makes sense in context). It's just pure crazy fun, in typical Beatles fashion. But now, I need to address the elephant in the room: the Beatles themselves. Now, they're not bad actors at all (as we've seen in "Hard Day's Night") but we have to talk about the performances for a second. They're performances are all right, I had just noticed something was off. They simply weren't all the way there. It caught me off-guard. Especially John, who had this manic energy he brought, just is missing. Paul McCartney explained in an interview I saw that this was because they were *very* stoned for most of the movie, and that actually makes a lot of sense when you sit down to watch it. Another thing I'd like to talk about is the scenes for the fan-girls because there are a few. I really would've loved to be in a movie theatre in '65, just to see what those girls' responses were to these scenes. In one scene, George has his shirt ripped off him, another one exposes Ringo in his boxers. But the highlight scene would in "The Exciting Adventure of Paul on the Floor" where Paul is completely naked. It's almost as though I can still hear those girls screaming at the top of their lungs. Strangely enough though, John doesn't get a scene like that. Probably because we saw him in the bath in "Hard Day's Night" but it's still a little disappointing. Ah, well, I'll take my John in the bath tub scene and move on. I rewatched several scenes after my first viewing and took a great interest into George Harrison. Obviously, like the other Beatles, he's stoned out of his mind for most of the film and just doing wacky things in the background when the focus isn't on him. Such as eating a cymbal. It...actually doesn't make sense in context either but uh...it got several laughs out of me. There are several moments of them just being crazy that make no sense, such as a 7-second long "intermission" between parts 1 and 2 in which.... I don't even know how to describe it. You'll have to just see it for yourself. ALSO please watch the credits of the movie. Usually I'm one to skip them but here I was laughing my head off. There the Beatles are, stoned as usual, just laughing and messing around dubbed over the credits. And again, George Harrison steals the show. Overall, I actually enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. Even with *slight* (you can tell from they're expressions and tones that they're mocking this way of thinking, not condoning it) racism I would probably recommend it to Beatles fans/fans of disaster comedies like "Airplane". It was just simply a lot of fun. It does include intense scenes including several Ringo murder attempts which may frighten younger or more sensitive viewers.

With a much straightforward narrative than other Beatles movies, this follows a "Bond-type story" and tries to be a "Mel Brooks type of comedy movie" sadly it fails. This is a bunch of sketches stick together without grace, with many improvised dialogue and moments that lead nowhere and are just cringe inducing. Fortunately in this movie they feel a little bit more natural and not trying that hard to be perceived as "authentic".

Fantastic fun movie and brilliant music

Beatles fans may love it but for me it was a weaker episode of The Monkeys.

This was the first Beatles movie I've watched in a long, long time and I loved it. One of the biggest cons is the acting (obviously). If you didn't get the memo already, the main cast is literally the most successful band in history and aren't professional actors (if I'm being honest Paul McCartney and George Harrison weren't that bad compared to the others) so I'd take that factoid with a grain of salt. Other than that I'd say that "Help!" has a creative plot along with an amazing soundtrack and hilarious writing. Definitely a movie worth watching at least once in your life.

great for its time. As an avid Beatles fan I fell in love with this movie.

What a goofy, silly, wonderful movie! I used to watch this one all the time as a kid, so it may be the nostalgia talking, but it still holds up well. I was smiling almost the entire time. It was a bit slower than I remember, and my kids may not have enjoyed it as much as I did, but this is probably my favorite Beatles movie.

I like the more fun and pop-style Beatles songs, so watching Help! was a great opportunity to enjoy some of my favorite music from them. As a goofy way of presenting a bunch of their songs, Help! is worthwhile. However, I have a tough time calling this a movie. There’s about 10 to15 minutes devoted to cobbling together a plot where a bunch of people want a ring that is stuck on Ringo’s finger, then the rest of the runtime is just one attempt after another to take the ring or kidnap Ringo. It’s utterly ludicrous, and yet rarely gets all that funny. Style-wise, it felt like an attempt to emulate a Monty Python film, but they just don’t have the kind of variety in scenes that those movies thrive on. There were moments of brilliance (like when they break in the middle of a scene in order to explore Paul’s adventure on the floor when he gets shrunk down) but they didn’t have enough moments strung together to make a good film. The Beatles all have charisma on camera, so I think there was potential to do something great with them, but the plot didn’t give them many opportunities to shine. I also thought there were some issues with the audio recording, or perhaps it was just the fact that their accents are quite thick, but I struggled to understand a lot of their dialogue. When I did catch their lines, it seemed they had some funny one-liners written for them, so it frustrated me that I didn’t hear every word. It’s hard to say much more about Help! than that. The movie reminded me of a classic cartoon where a bumbling bad guy keeps trying to get something from our hero, and continues to fail (like a Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner cartoon.) But those are typically rapid-fire shorts that take about 10 minutes, stretching it out for 90 minutes didn’t work so well for me. At least Help! avoided monotony by regularly breaking the action for another full song, but I think I’d rather just listen to the record.

It's funny purely through the Beatles charisma, the music is amazing and I appreciate trying to go for more of a story than A Hard Day's Night, but in the end it feels more like a television movie, doesn't hold up like the first, enjoyable though.
