Bingo Hell Reviews
When you scroll through the title on your streaming service of choice and a title like BINGO HELL pops up, well, you don't ask any questions. You just grab the popcorn, shut off the phone and start the show. Unfortunately this movie is neither scary enough to be a good horror movie nor cheesy enough to be a good satire of horror movies. It's also not bad enough to be a guilty pleasure. Despite a game performance by Oscar nominee Barraza, who seems to be channeling the feisty spirit of Rita Moreno throughout, there isn't much to recommend here beyond the initial promising concept. The first three-quarters is actually borderline boring with very little going on - lots of exposition but not a lot of pay off. With the exception of Barraza, the other performances aren't particularly strong although Brake's villainous Mr. Big made me think of Julian Beck's Kane in POLTERGEIST II from time to time. Only the ending embraces the absurdity of what's going on although it's arguably way too over the top and jarring compared to what's come before it. In the end, there's nothing scarier here than what you would find in a normal bingo hall. But it's nice to see so many senior citizens finding roles.
A dying community is suffering from both old age, low income and gentrification. That's when the bingo hall gets taken over by an evil man. Not if bad ass abuelita Adriana Barraza has something to say about it. Cool horror comedy movie from Blumhouse productions. Didn't get a lot of love from rotten tomatoes but I found it entertaining 🍿🍿🍿🍿/5 on Prime
A film with this premise should have been some fun.
gosh; i've attempted to watch this one twice & both times i eventually stopped watching it altogether - whether it was boredom or dislike, it's hard to tell. i really like the premise & there's a few gnarly scenes worth watching, but overall i just didn't care. i actually have no idea how it ends, so maybe it got better. wasn't for me.
1 out of 5 stars. Bingo Hell is one horror comedy film that is about a stereotypical elderly who complains about everything and hate that her small town is changing with new faces and being modern. When her old bingo hall gets bought out by a shady guy and modernizes bingo with a cache for the winners. These get bloody when body counts rises and she is trying to figure it out. The humor is dumb. The script and direction is annoying and stupid. It lacks the thrills and scares. Gives more gross deaths than thrills. The acting is forgettable and annoying. The cast is tedious. Its one forgettable film.
A heartfelt horror/comedy with a great balance of gruesomeness and character connection. The residents of a small, impoverished, American town are struggling to remember who they once were in a community who has forgotten its true identity. Seduced by a nefarious newcomer, this Faustian story will test the moral fibre of this tribe presenting them with a fight for the very soul of their town. This struck a note of sincerity based on the authenticity of the well developed characters and the exploration of the every day problems of the real people in America. This has all the ingredients to be a cult horror B-grade classic. A simple yet effectively executed message about people being tested and self-discovery in a light hearted comedy/horror context. Fun yet significant.
Great cast, poor writing. I was hoping for a fun comedy /horror for spooky season. What I got was lots of mucus looking goop, unbearable music, and nothing scary or funny. I may have wore out the button on my remote that makes it skip ahead 10 seconds every time that music came on. I'm not even sure if this was trying to be a horror or a comedy but it failed either way. It had a great cast though who I think did the best they could with this dumb plot.
Firstly today, grab your Dabbers your bus pass & a ridiculous, useless lucky charm & let's go play BINGO!! WHHHOOOOOOO!! (I really need to get out more). "Bingo Hell" (‘21) is set in the rundown area of Oak Springs where the few residents left, including interfering, but well-meaning Latino Nana, Lupita (Adriana Barazza), who along with her OAP pals & other assorted locals become slightly susupicious when the local Bingo hall is taken over & rejuvenated by the creepy, yet generous, Mr. Big (Richard Brake), who promises someone a life-changing amount of money, but then is never seen, or heard from again & when Lupita begins investigating, only to realise the deadly price that comes with the big win & why Mr. Big's really in their desperate area of town. This cross of "Cocoon" meets Faust is a funny, daft, grisly slice of hokum, with tough old bird Lupita kicking asses & having Lumbago, as she takes on evil to protect her beloved neighbourhood & it's few remaining residents. As well as a gloriously silly bit of gory fun, it also has a lot of relevant points about the lack of real community these days & how the poor are forgotten about, as the neighbourhod is gentrified & over-whelmed by Millenial, vaping arseholes of the worst kind, but never in a preachy way. It's a film with a lot of heart, laughs & enough grue to keep everyone suitably entertained. Co-Writer/Director, Gigi Saul Guerrero handles the mix of everything with some style. So, it's of eyes down for a full house of frantic fun & genuinely a lot more fun than playing the real game. True! "2 Fat Ladies" Grimly.
i really liked it. maybe it's because my expectations were low going in knowing it was a low budget blumhouse film, but i thought it was delightful. the acting was good for mostly having rather unknown actors. i liked the messages without it being too preachy. it is only 85 minutes so it's not like it dragged on too long. i don't know what people are complaining about really.
‘Bingo Hell' Champions Unlikely Heroes in Splatstick Horror-Comedy With Heart
Ok boomers. Not scary at all. The premise could be original, but its development is predictable and not intriguing.
I liked Richard Brake. -Jacobb Cage
With a few reshoots and one hell of a re-edit, Bingo Hell might be salvageable, but as is the film is a dull mess of underutilized high concept ideas slathered in an under explained facade of cheap gore. If you want a good horror film for this holiday season, look elsewhere as Bingo Hell is nothing more than a waste of 85 minutes.
Funny at times, a little gory but not scary any seconds and most of all too hysterical to be enjoyable. Looks cheap, directed like a tv movie and not interesting plot wise. More of a b-movie grindhouse style than anything remarkable in the genre. Next.
It's a tired commentary on society and panders to the anti gentrification crew. No scares , plot holes that don't matter because this movie doesn't matter. Amazon really missed by banking on this.
I truly enjoyed this movie! With a cast of sextagenarians, Bingo Hell offers a glimpse of what life is like in Oak Springs. There is a lot of humor and quite a bit of heart. The horror isn't over the top, but it is enough to inform the viewer of how high the stakes are in this community. The movie isn't without flaws, but the director uses clever cinematography, relevant music, and great performances to mask them. I'm okay with that. I had fun watching the residents fight for their community and I would recommend giving Bingo Hell a chance!
The movie was a fun and exciting watch. It kept you following the story as you learned about the lives of the characters . The image to the directors grandmother was beautifully done and the acting top notch ! Absolutely amazing !
