Black Rock Reviews
I'm over a decade late to this party, but I had to write a review in support of this film, partially because it received such a low audience rating. Contrary to popular opinion, I found the movie engaging and suspenseful. And the acting was very good; the characters were well-written; and the sets/scenery, interestingly, managed to be beautiful yet claustrophobic. Additionally, the menacing score cleverly contrasted with the bright birdsong in those woods as the women sought to evade their hunters.
I love this freaking movie .I know it's not perfectly written, or a blockbuster or masterpiece, but it keeps me guessing from top to bottom. I did not expect what was going to happen , sad and good if you wanna have your girl bestie over and have a glass of wine…. this is the best freaking movie that you wanna pop in ! you'll be happy this is like a "girls dream of a thriller" just take it for what it it and don't expect too much too little It was awesome. Seriously, it really is a good ,solid movie emphasis on movie. We all have such a great time watching it, we didn't want anything heavy we wanted to be like oh wow wow this is insane "" and I did that for us and it's the perfect movie to watch with your close friends, A+ for me if you want Oscar worthy don't look at this, but it was well-made not gonna lie.
It was ok if you have low expectations.
The worst movie I've seen this summer. Love yourself and avoid losing your time like I did.
idk, maybe i've been watching a lot of bad movies lately, but i didn't think this was that terrible. i'm not sure it does anything ground-breaking but it's definitely a decent watch.
Entertaining movie, but some elements of their survival is unrealistic.
Meager survival tale (just 80 minutes) undone by wholly unlikeable characters.
So bad that it's almost laughable at times. It's a strange mix of a Lifetime movie that's written on the level of a 6th grader that involves some adult situations. That's literally the best I can do at describing it. And in this day and age of movies on demand and endless content, I get less and less tolerant of garbage like this which somehow garners decent reviews. This movie had no business being made. It depresses me that I exist in the same time era where someone would watch this and give it a positive review. In a better world and a better time, this thing wouldn't even qualify to near the moniker of "film" and the world could collectively focus on movies that actually had a reason to be produced. This movie has to reason to exist. Watch it and it will actually make your mood worse and start an avalanche of existential questions as to how the world ended up in a place where someone would put money down to create this miserable series I'd wasted scenes.
This was one of the stupidest movies I have ever seen. The acting horrible. The plot horrible. Nothing was even remotely good about this movie.
I agree with other reviewers that while the acting is really good (the screaming match between the leads felt very real and uncomfortable), the characters aren't developed nearly enough. I'm definitely not rooting for these female leads at all. The writing is really awkward, the emotional moments poorly timed and the hysteria kind of inappropriate for the situations. Why did the strongest one get killed off first? It didn't make sense. Also, as a female veteran, I found the premise to be very offensive and paints war veterans as rapists, psychos and misogynists. Yeah, A LOT of them are... But the distinction is never really addressed. The female leads seem to become IMMEDIATELY uncomfortable when they find out that they're veterans even before they find out about their dishonorable discharges. Okay... Rude. The research behind what military members are like is really lazy... Seriously, why do filmmakers never actually ask veterans to weigh in on their writing? Unless these guys are HIGHLY trained soldiers, it's very unlikely that they'd be able to so easily find the women in a forest like that without a map. Clearly it isn't familiar territory since the only one that is a town local was the first to die and they all just got out of the military. Sure, they've been through SERE, but at no point do they use ANY tracking skills at all... Another major inaccuracy is that I highly doubt they would all be discharged on the same day. I'm no UCMJ expert, but I'm assuming they all violated different articles that would take varying amounts of time to process.
A failed remake of 'Deliverance'. Just horrible. Acting was bad, everything about this movie was bad and I can't believe I actually wasted the time to watch the entire thing!
Was riveted to the screen, strong performances from the 3 primary characters of the film, be prepared for some strong graphical scenes and subject matter, I'll be looking for other films featuring The leading ladies ð~
Not very original, but, very powerful. At least, very powerful for a genre debut starring Kate Bosworth.
A simple yet effective survival movie. The characters are believable and work well with each other. While it can be a little predictable, it is also realistic in the approach. It's short, but does not overstay its welcome.
