Blood Father Reviews
Mel Gibson might not be able to leap through dozens of stunt sequences anymore, but the man has lost none of his psychological vigor or resolve. His brand of crazy still works in this throwback actioner.

Finds a way to channel Gibson's fury, rounding up a satisfactory and effective film, and without a doubt, the redemption he needed. [Full review in Spanish]

Gibson commands the screen and elevates the proceedings, proving along the way that hes still a movie star.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Apr 11, 2022
Bruce Willis, John Travolta, et al. - or their agents - could definitely take a leaf out of this film's book when it comes to choosing their next projects

It's not complicated, but it's a satisfying 88-minute drama driven by [Mel] Gibson's undimmed star power.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Apr 3, 2020
Blood Father reminds us why Mel Gibson has had longevity in a career that chews people up and spits them out more often than not.
| Original Score: 4.5/5 | Sep 19, 2019
Blood Father has an R-Rated, trashy B-movie feel...
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Sep 5, 2019
Full of ugly personalities and dirty imagery, it's a return to the glory days of unpretentious action thrillers that did what they set out to do, and nothing more.
| Sep 1, 2019
A film about redemption made all the more poignant and relevant because it draws on our own sense of betrayal and anger towards Gibson and challenges us to either forgive or dismiss.
| Jul 26, 2019
There are moments of wild-eyed over-acting, as we've come to expect of old Mel down the years, but they don't seem out of place in a film that seems to have its tongue firmly in its cheek.
| Original Score: 3/5 | May 10, 2019
The result is resoundingly effective and enjoyable despite being entirely predictable. [Full review in Spanish]

Blood Father honestly melds the action-thriller genre with the world of recovery so well it more or less becomes its own subgenre of "recovery road action".
| Dec 8, 2018
Sure, the film has its share of scattered clichés that befall a jumpy road flick. Still, one cannot deny the reflective and raucous vibes that emanate from rag-tag pulpy Blood Father.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Nov 9, 2018
Gibson is superb as the imperfect, weather beaten patriarch set on saving a damsel in distress.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Nov 1, 2018
It's a movie that draws on thematically on its stars past failings and utilizes that edge for an entertaining piece of action cinema.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Nov 1, 2018
It likely won't change your opinions of Gibson one way or the other, but as a piece of entertainment that never takes itself more seriously than absolutely necessary, it's fine.
| Original Score: 3.4/5 | Aug 28, 2018
Jean-Francois Richet directs, but the real plaudits belong to writers Peter Craig and Andrea Berloff for their gritty but witty screenplay, and to Gibson and Moriarty, who spar well together. Welcome back, Mel.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 18, 2017
The ensuing action is very much in the Taken vein... but director Jean-François Richet handles the action briskly, while Mel displays an impressive emotional vulnerability - when he isn't knocking lumps out of the bad guys.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 6, 2017
It is, in the end, impossible to label Blood Father as anything less than a massive missed opportunity...
| Original Score: 2/4 | Jun 12, 2017
The dialogue goes like a Gatling gun and the action is its match.
