Blues Brothers 2000 Reviews
Better with Belushi that’s all I can say
No laughs however the songs are really great but this sequel is shameful and disrespectful to the first blues brothers and the writing is wasteful.
No Jake. No Chicago as a character. Good music. Still some goofy as hell script. Still over the top. Brought in some of the best Bluesmen ever. Worth the watch for the song and dance alone. The final jam is a music whos who worth the moment.
Classic music classic players don't knock the music. Like the first no real story line just got to love the music.
Filme ruim, o roteiro é ruim, o filme tem coisas sem sentindo igual ao outro filme, dessa vez o gordinho blue na estava por que morreu nos anos 80, o filme é muito musical e isso torna o filme chato , eu não recomendo esse filme.
As poorly conceived as many sequels. Fun car crashes and some fine tunes and dancing, but much is an embarrassment to all the talent they recruited. Sad. Missing John Belushi again.
Stilted and clutching. Very disappointing
the first movie was masterpiece, this time they lost the magic cause 1) we are not in 80s anymore and 2) we (unfortunately) don't have THE John Belushi.
It is not like the first, but I passed My time
I was a bit disappointed in this sequel, but how can you top the original without John Belushi? There was a little too much happening - it could have been pared down to add more comedy and less "action:" get rid of the amount of car crashes, explosions, and such. But the music is better and there's more of it than the first. So, sit back, have a beer, and enjoy the show.
A nostalgic movie with great music. A great sequel and ending to the original Blues Brothers. The journey for the music. Great dancing and laughs throughout
What a shame they ruined one of the best movies ever made with this dopey sequel.
Advice to people who loved the first movie and are about to watch this one: Go to YouTube instead and watch some of the musical numbers. It will be a wonderful testament to history that all of those blues musicians got to perform on stage together before they died (which many since have). The Sam Moore/James Brown scene, the Aretha scene, the Wilson Pickett scene, the Blues Traveler scene, the B.B. King number (with about 20 famous musicians behind him) and Brown's "Please Please Please" at the very end are all good-to-excellent. The rest of the movie is almost impressively terrible. One has to work hard to produce something so awful that it cannot simply coast between these amazing musical numbers and provide requisite enjoyment. No character is funny, either in concept or in dialogue, Aykroyd and John Goodman each turn in terrible acting performances, have no chemistry, and apparently need half a dozen strippers surrounding them to make their songs retain any interested viewership. And there's a deadpan 10-year-old who acts as the "3rd Blues Brother," but has no funny lines, there's no good plot or subplot-related reason for him to be there, and it is very awkward that 10 grown touring musicians randomly have a kid with them. In one exchange, Elwood tells him "don't screw up like I did." That sounds like it could have been the kernel of a heartwarming movie premise (Elwood trying to go "legit" and repay the damage he has caused), but it never develops. "Stay away from drugs, gangs, cyber porn on the internet, and you'll be fine." I don't know if that line is supposed to be funny, but even delivered with Elwood's overly-stilted Chicago accent, it isn't. And it doesn't ring true either--we know that Elwood didn't "screw up" because of internet porn, it didn't exist in 1980. We SAW the reasons he was put in jail. Much funnier would have been if he said "stay away from drugs, gangs, internet porn, skipping out on beer tabs, running N*zis off of bridges, destroying malls, making police cars' tires explode," etc., because a 10-year-old would have been confused by this very specific list of things not to do. And this is basically the gist of the comedy. It is either rushed, uninspired, barely-attempted or weird and unnecessary (the voodoo queen idea is a scourge upon every moment that it is part of the movie, not to mention immediately disintegrating the Russians vs. Confederates scene that the previous movie would love to have filmed. No disrespect intended toward the wonderful Erykah Badu). Additionally, the plot is basically a worse retread of the original: Elwood gets out of prison, and decides to reunite the band for a series of shows only made "funny" by booking misunderstandings, headed toward a final real show, all while being chased by (and then escaping from) incompetent police. So it's very predictable and just makes one wish they were watching the first movie again. There is no substitute in this sequel for Belushi's charisma, so it just runs on the very thin fuel of nostalgia and great musical showpieces. Go watch the showpieces by themselves and skip the movie.
Why was this made? That's the real message of this film. The acting is so lifeless, lacking any chemistry, and is devoid of any jokes that get a laugh that it is almost fascinating. The cinematography is lifeless also mainly because while the shots are well framed in the center there is almost always NEVER anything else going on around the center of focus and because the acting is already so lifeless and dull it makes each shot REALLY Boring. Than there are some bizarre stupid scenes like Ghost Riders in the Sky and the Voodoo witch where its very clear they don't care really at all. The Music is ok overall but number to number can be very all over the place in terms of quality. The soundtrack is easily the most "Strongest" element of this film. The editing and Pacing are Bad. Things just happen and with no charm at all you want this to end about halfway through. The last two notes are the plot is almost nonexistent which contributes to the incredible lack of focus in this movie after 10 minutes in. (Why are we getting the band back together?) And as a sequel nothing new happens rather than adding and fleshing out the story told by the first this just adds new people in to fill the void left by Jake and Curtis. This is trying so hard to recapture the magic of the first it forgets to actually be a sequel and tell a story in a fun manner. Skip This Completely.
This film brought disgrace upon the franchise because it was bad for so many reasons. The only way a Blues Brothers sequel could have worked is if Jim Belushi signed on to play a third (and younger) brother of the other two.
The funniest 02 hours: and 03 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In memory of James Brown and Aretha Franklin, and starring Saturday Night Live alum Dan Aykroyd, Saturday Night Live host John Goodman, Frank Oz, and Saturday Night Live alum Darrell Hammond!!!!!!!!!
Es una buena secuela. John Goodman hace muy bien su trabajo y aunque Belushi se extraña, creo que funciona bien y aunque es larga no se hace densa. La comedia disfuncional (en este nuevo mundo) sigue funcionando bien para mi.
Loved it, 2021, Doesn't take a genius to pick out the flawa but the gospel number and the closing are breathtaking. Hey hey hey hah!
This movie makes it's original seem like a unique community. But while the frist movie is a decent comedy, this movie blows. I did find some of it funny but not the whole which sinks the flim. So it's not worth it, don't watch it.
The plot of this movie is horrible and just dumb. That said you watch this movie for the music, and the music is outstanding
