Boss Level Reviews
Carnahan understands how this sort of film works, delivering a fast and fun actioner that plays out like a spectacularly gonzo Groundhog Day.

... An action comedy in which death isn't as tragic as lost time. [Full review in Spanish]

Frank Grillo shines in Boss Level, a time loop sci-fi action drama featuring irresistible fight scenes, hilarious absurdity, and a surprisingly meaningful twist.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 18, 2023
Joe Carnahan takes an idea of what video games are, slaps on a hard R-rating, and stomps the accelerator, rarely taking his foot off the gas.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Aug 17, 2022
Boss Level felt like a ton of fun, like opening a new game on release day.

Carnahan has delivered intriguing action films in the past, but the outcome here is less than captivating.
| Original Score: 4/10 | Jun 5, 2022
There is plenty of action in this film, no small amount of humor, and a compelling story about love and redemption. The acting is solid and the main characters are compelling.

Boss Level is a wickedly fun and outrageously entertaining action romp.

Although the story is somewhat predictable... the film succeeds in making us care about our protagonist. [Full review in Spanish]

A thoroughly enjoyable thrill ride that provides just as many laughs as it does badassery.

When your jaw isn't dropping at the stellar action sequences, you'll be laughing at one of Roy's expletive-laden quips
| Original Score: B+ | Jun 23, 2021
Boss Level is not particularly deep, nor is it an innovative twist on the genre. But everyone on-screen is clearly having a blast, and their enthusiasm is contagious, making this film just plain fun to watch.

It's all pretty dumb, but manages to be occasionally fun.

A zippy, crafty delight....even action snobs will find "Boss Level" a good time.

Time-loop movies are fun-they're metaphors for human reincarnation; each repeating day representing an accelerated lifetime. According to the sages however, when we reincarnate, our memories are erased. "Boss Level" features fun but painful day do-overs.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 6, 2021
Frank and Rio Grillo share the film's best scenes. They need to make more movies together, because the kid brings out a new shade of pale in his dad's onscreen persona.
| Original Score: B+ | Mar 31, 2021
This is a film whose only ambition is to let Grillo kick all the ass he wants...
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Mar 26, 2021
It's not high art, but it is fun. And, if you're willing to get on its level, perhaps even moving.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Mar 19, 2021
While Boss Level feels a little derivative and a teensy bit dumb, it gets points for stretching the genre in new directions.

If this is a video game, as the title suggests, Carnahan's playing it on easy mode.
