If he weren’t Brett Goldstein, I’m not sure HBO would have given him a microphone. He’s an A+ human being, but a B- comedian, which certainly makes Second Best Night of Your Life worthwhile but hardly necessary.

As a Ted Lasso fan, I came for Roy Kent vibes and stayed for the relatability—Brett's take on modern life, aging, and awkward encounters feels hilariously honest. Not every bit lands, and it occasionally drags, but his charisma carries it through. It’s like a pint with an old friend—familiar, funny, and maybe not your best night... but far from your worst.

Brett has obviously been involved with some great projects like Ted Lasso and Shrinking. He has major chops when it comes to writing comedy. That said, we were pretty underwhelmed with his special. There were a few funny gags, but for the most part it was a pretty awkward performance. If it was not “Roy Kent” delivering the lines he might have fit better as an opener for a big time comic.
