Synopsis
French filmmaker Pierre Braunberger directs this gripping and unblinkingly gory history of the Spanish sport of bullfighting. The majority of the film is a scholarly history of bullfighting, covering both its development as the country's national sport and the unique place that bullfighting holds in the Spanish national psyche. These historical sections are interwoven with close-up films of actual bullfights, featuring some of the country's most famous matadors, including Manolete and Belmonte.
