But I'm a Cheerleader Reviews
So ahead of it's time. Natasha Lyonne nailed it. I love Megan and Graham. Couple goals. Brilliant and hilarious 😂. 🩷🩷🩷
A creative, strange, and super 2000s movie that explores themes ahead of its time. There's a really interesting relationship that works as a conflict for the film's unique premise. This relationship is both the heart, backbone, and main intrigue of the story. The only complaint would be that this film is a “comedy” that's not funny. But at the same time it can be equally enjoyed as a drama instead, so it doesn't take away anything from its enjoyment factors.
Gotta watch at the very least for the 'straight' RuPaul! *cackles* In fairness though, I loved the whole dissociated feeling in the beginning of the film, it's really well conveyed. The symbolism in little details is pretty clever and amusing. There are some very tender scenes that make you hold your breath, while others are silly and comical. Would watch again!
Kind of silly and ridiculous, but it has its moments, although not much
LESBIANS GAAAYYYYY!!
I mean, I get it, I get its mean't to be humerous and a fun watch but honestly, I didn't catch myself laughing once, I just found it rather boring and turned it off eventually.
Great movie and the exploration of the themes in the movie were actually done pretty well which shocked me they did it so well
This was one of the best movies i've ever seen. I cried twice watching it and also discovered the band April March. (They made the song "Chick Habit which plays at the beginning of the movie)
People who hate this movie are lame. Maybe you didn't like it because it wasn't made for you? Wow you're not the target audience for once, shocker! Just say you're boring and filled with spite. I'm sorry you can't relate with beautiful, lovely, funny things and haven't experienced love and boundless whimsy. Keep rotting in your mother's basement you unlovable virgin. I'm gonna go french kiss a woman, something you can only dream of.
A cute movie with sweet messages, but it could use some better filmography or lighting
That was such a weird movie. I liked the message. But so oddly delivered
🏳️🌈 This satirical comedy follows a naive teenager sent to a residential in-patient conversion therapy camp when her strait-laced parents and friends suspect her of being a lesbian. An entertaining movie that also acts as a humorous social commentary about the uselessness of therapy camps, discrediting them and raising awareness about them. The use of the colour palette is very smart and the cast is quite charming, even though their characters may seem a bit stereotypical. The bright aesthetic is generally delightful, the humour is great and its screenplay is quite impressive for its day, as it is a very original idea.
This is an entertaining movie that unfortunately suffers from lack of a consistent tone. It's neither outrageous enough to be an AIRPLANE! type satire nor dark enough to achieve the level of something like HEATHERS. And by the end, it loses all steam and actually turns into a cookie cutter romantic comedy. That's too bad, because in the right hands, this could have been something fiercely funny and irreverent, especially considering recent releases of films like BOY ERASED and THE MISEDUCATION OF CAMERON POST. The film does manage to create quite a surreal world filled with pastel colors and madcap characters - the look of it almost reminded me of something like EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. If only the filmmakers had decided what they wanted to convey, this would have been a recommendation. Unfortunately, sometimes it feels like they're just making it up as they go along.
This movie is very odd and at times generic with overplayed stereotypes, but the dramatic in your face symbolism is definitely noteworthy.
1, 2, 3, 4, straight RuPaul says don’t explore 🙀
Andre Charles is in it
Of course the stupid critics gave this a rotten rating.
