Candy Reviews
Heavy, heartbreaking, sad love story about two people clinging to each other while engrossed in their mind-numbing drug use. Great acting by Geoffrey Rush as their supportive druggie buddy.
Bored me a little, but i love Heath Ledger
idk this movie just made me angry and also very uncomfortable, which i think was the goal.
Inspired, the scene's are beautifully shot. The subject matter, while dark and suffocating, effectively captures the essence of a young and true love in which is plagued by the realities of a life with addiction. A great performance by Heath Ledger, perhaps only outshined by Geoffrey Rush.
No sympathy from me to the junkies, the movie wasn't bad, it was just not for me. The moral of the story: "When you can stop, you don't want to. When you want to stop, you can't."
A haunting love story cursed with addiction and co-dependency. Heath Ledger is the clear stand out star but Geoffrey Rush and Abbie Cornish (as Candy) both turn in powerful performances worthy of remembering. Word to the wise, this film heavy and could lead to a slight depressive state afterword. Let the viewer beware.
Not a compelling movie about drug addiction and the inevitable spiral. You'd be better off watching Basketball Diaries again. It was nice to see Heath Ledger though.
It was a meaningful movie about drug addiction and the different stages but it was quite painful to watch. Heath Ledger was amazing though.
Not only if you are familiar with the effects of drug abuse, but this film also displays the realness of how it is when you and your love are on hard drugs. It shows in some kind depressing way how Heroin and the social downfall when being pressed against the walls of society. Even tho playing in Australia, Heath Ledger's performance is tight as always and Abby Cornish is doing a great job too.
Best Movie Ev-er. Loved everything about it. I am surprised this movie didn't get more love and attention. It was done so well. Sad, raw story of a couple sinking into an addiction. I like the natural feel of the film..you feel like it's authentic, and you are watching a real couple. I loved the poetic, sensitive and honest Heath Ledger charecter narrating how he was feeling throughout there tragedies and roller coaster relationship. I have to admit, I'm a sucker for watching addiction drama..and this was done wonderfully well. I didn't want it to end as I felt like I knew the characters at the end, as it really takes you into a personal ride of there story. Did I say I loved it?? It has some truly heartbreaking scenes anyone with a heart can identify with how it would feel.
This film gives a strong message of what not to do in life. Good story, has its ups and downs emotionally. Very convincing performances from Ledger and Cornish. Liked it.
Terrifically fierce performances from Australian heartthrobs Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish break hearts in this harrowingly penetrating cautionary love tale on hellish consequences of the heroin addiction.
I am extremely picky about art and films and books and I have seen this movie a number of times. I really like it. Not entirely sure why it has such a low rating. I have actually seen some very attractive drug addicts in my life so I kind of disagree about how good they look although I think they could have made themselves look a little worse for wear to appease the masses but the performances are outstanding. I personally feel that it is both lead actors best role. Sure Heath has won an award blah blah but this is truly a fascinating piece of art. I heard the book that it is based on is spectacularly beautifully written. I rated this movie so highly because I can'tr actually think of a more favorite movie of mine out there. This is my top pick believe it or not. Weird I know but it just makes me feel good in a melancholy way that sticks with me for hours and days after. I like Candy and I don't care about the reviews...
I disagree with the consensus of the critics, I think it shows that Heroine addiction can happen to anyone, and then they do look shitty, and all addicts are self pitying, that didn't stop me from loving or identifying with the characters.
I had no idea going into Candy what I was in store for with this movie. Heath Ledger in a movie about heroin, I figured it was worth a shot since I am a fan of his. Candy at its basic is a love story about two heroin addicts trying to remain happy while feeding their addiction by just about any means necessary. In most drug related movies anytime they show one of the characters going through heroin withdrawal it is usually a little bit overboard and overblown as in The Basketball Diaries. But Candy is pretty spot on when it came time for that scene. A very disturbing sequence where the couple in the film decides they are going to kick heroin cold turkey and buckle down for what is about to hit and hit really hard. I would classify the movie overall is pretty emotional, but rather boring. Ledger is great as he normally is, and Abby Cornish is very stellar as well. The two work well together, but there just is not enough substance there to make this a great film.
Candy is one of those movies that will pull you into their little world and have you love and hate the characters multiple times before it's over. Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish portray lovers addicted to each other and to drugs. They spiral deeper and deeper into addiction and this film beautifully captures every second of it. This movie really shows some raw emotion from both actors and in my opinion is one of Heath Ledger's best films.
