Carry-On Reviews
There are, of course, plot holes large enough to fly a Dreamliner through... but these are problems you expect from a movie like this.

Carry-On is a vigorous reminder on the power of an engrossing B-grade action flick and showcases Collett-Serra's well-honed skills in breakneck characterization and plotting needed for emotionally invested tension.

Anybody comparing this lazy junk to “Die Hard” is either living in an alternate universe or needs a couple of semesters of film school.

...Jaume Collet-Serra...draws more on the action thrillers of the glorious '80s and much of the '90s. [Full review in Spanish]

Carry-On brings us back to a gritty and direct thriller professional that is more than entertaining, giving us a show that is free of complexities and mindlessness in just the right measure. [Full review in Spanish]

Die Hard Junior

...while it might not make you go ‘Yippee-Ki-Yay’, it’ll surely leave you on cloud nine.

A real guilty pleasure.

Scene to scene, Carry-On is nonsense. You’ll either spend the film’s third act too high on the movie’s stupidity to care about the plot, or you’ll be shouting at every twist.

What begins as a tense game of paranoid cat and mouse gives way to a flurry of well-choreographed action scenes filmed with the right bravado, but which lack a strong enough guiding link to make sense of the plot. [Full review in Spanish]

"Carry-On" is an action movie that is definitely a Christmas movie, no ifs, ands or buts about it.
| Original Score: B | Jan 13, 2025
... A filling chunk of crude entertainment – as carb-rich and greens-free as the baked potato you’ll probably eat with it.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jan 8, 2025
With Taron Edgerton as our hero, Jason Bateman as our villain and New Orleans’ old, decommissioned MSY convincingly doubling as LAX, its solid pacing and suspenseful story make for an enjoyable if brainless genre romp.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Jan 6, 2025
Egerton brings an edge to the protagonist derived out of a keen sense of self-disgust, while Bateman again abandons his once archetypal droll, comic persona, for a darker and more sinister place.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jan 4, 2025
Carry-On does everything a decent Hollywood genre movie should: concise on the plotting, tense when time gets tight, and a showcase for star Taron Egerton.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jan 3, 2025
A taut airport caper that features an absolutely ripper car sequence...The plotting is intricate and involving, putting it at odds with so many films nowadays where story integrity barely rates. Every action has a consequence, every decision has a cost.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Jan 2, 2025
Carry-On might not become a Christmas viewing staple a la Die Hard, but if you’re looking for something absorbing to engage with this holiday season, then this just might be the ticket. Welcome to the party pal.

Action-packed and suspenseful, this throwback to '90s-era action films like Die Hard and Speed is a definite audience pleaser.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 30, 2024
Egerton and Bateman deserved a better script that didn't suck all the juice out of a certain Bruce Willis-led late 80s action film. Little of it is surprising, most of it is forgettable, and the end is just too neat.

Despite its minor detours, Carry-On is a well-crafted holiday thriller that strikes a balance between tension, action, and emotional stakes.
