Casper Reviews
Rated PG for Mild Language Throughout!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1 hour and 40 minutes of what goes bump in the night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A classic, masterfully crafted film! Shame on anyone who would say otherwise.
Filme muito subestimado em seu lançamento que merece ser visto novamente. O enredo é nitidamente infantil mas tem um charme para entreter qualquer telespectador. 6/10 é uma nota bem colocada para o mesmo!
**Casper - 3.5 Stars** Rewatching *Casper* feels like stepping back into my childhood. This 90s gem is packed with nostalgia, featuring a stellar cast led by Christina Ricci (who I had a huge crush on back then) and unforgettable cameos that bring humor and charm. The set designs are fantastic, immersing you in a spooky but inviting world. Surprisingly, the effects still hold up, and the chemistry between Casper and Kat is incredibly touching, bringing an unexpectedly heartbreaking depth to the story. The film explores adult themes with humor and heart, making it enjoyable for all ages. The hauntingly beautiful soundtrack adds a layer of magic, especially in that emotional ending—which still leaves me with chills and teary eyes. *Casper* is a classic Halloween film that's as funny as it is moving, and every rewatch reminds me why it’s stood the test of time.
Really amazing to bring ghost to life by life I'm taking about from the original cartoon into a live action family friendly film and is really fun spooky live action but the story is quite dark and it may questions to family about after life after seeing Casper and the special effects looks amazing and really surprising scenes and solid cast.
Classic holloween movie. Of course if you didnt see it in the 90s and hold it up to todays standards you might not like it. But as a kid this movie was great back when you didnt have a smart phone distracting you contantly.
6/10. 69/100. | As a Kid: 7/10. 71/100
While the story may be minimal, the film is full of charm and surprisingly addresses themes of grief in a way that is both poignant and impactful for a children’s movie.
Classic Halloween movie, it is cheesy but great.
Some corn and some so-so CG work. But overall a good Halloween movie. Ricci is always good, and the story and title character aren’t bad either. It’s grown on me.
A great film for the whole family. The special effects make up for a weak story line.
Classic nostalgia of a heart warming ghost with unfished business who encounters a ghost medium and his daughter. Great for kids!
The sentimental parts fall short, but it has some good slapsticky comedy in the mix. I watched it after watching Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire because I felt like watching a comedy after watching...whatever the hell that was.
Yeah it's a tad bit cheesy, but I still think it's a very cute film with a good heart, well done production & a good soundtrack. Christina Ricci is great too.
A charming family film that examines life, death and the afterlife without talking down to its demographic. Brad Silberling's directing and James Horner's haunting score bring this modern day retelling of everyone's favorite ghost to life. A perfect film for Halloween.
A classic... A charming re-imagined version of the cartoon, with a gentle exploration of death and the afterlife, suitable for children.
Not even the first 30 minutes could spark my interest.
Cute, dated, and dumb. The plot was surprisingly convoluted for a movie about a ghost who wants friends...You have a guy looking for his wife's ghost...his daughter who just wants to move on,...some jerk ghosts who can't decide if they want these people gone, dead, or to stay....there's ALSO a botched heiress trying to find a hidden fortune...a secret machine that can RAISE THE DEAD...and Casper spends most of his time trying to hook up with Christina Ricci. [I wanted to at that age, so that's understandable.] The effects weren't good even at the time. The script is sometimes fun, sometimes sincere, and sometimes unintentionally creepy.[...so all over the place.] And I have no idea why the machine wasn't used if Casper's dad completed it, or why he didn't become a ghost...or why mean-lady's assistant didn't come back...or why angel-mom was wearing "this usually means satan" Red. There's a lot of plotholes. This is just a really mixed bag. But there's nothing terrible about it. You can probably have fun if you can set your brain on low heat.
Some people think it's dated but I think the romance is cute enough to let it be.
The 1995 film Casper, directed by Brad Silberling, offers a delightful and heartwarming twist on the classic ghost story. Christina Ricci's portrayal of Kat, the teenage girl who befriends Casper, adds depth to the narrative. The special effects of the time bring Casper and his ghostly uncles, the Ghostly Trio, to life in a charming and endearing manner. Though nostalgic for 90s babies, Casper lacks the depth and humor that modern audiences would enjoy.
