Cats Reviews

Cats may not leave its audience in awe the way Les Miserables did but it does have its own charm. The best way to approach the movie is to go into the cinema knowing you will be about to watch a theatre production rather than a big blockbuster film.

If the cast and crew wanted audiences to feel like cats– easily distracted and bothered by almost everything– they’ve succeeded.

It is unlikely anyone will be feline good after witnessing this cat-astrophe because ultimately it was the morbid curiosity that killed the Cats…

I’m sure Taylor Swift’s next big hit will be a song about the jilted experience.

If by some chance, “Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat” doesn’t make you want to poke your ears out and wish that music had never been invented, bless your sincere, furry hide.

At best, it’s an ambitious misfire. At worst, it’s straight-up nightmare fuel that will haunt generations. Enter into the world of the Jellicles at your own peril.

Ugly, annoying and inconsistent

"I think there's a film version of "Cats" that could work, but this isn't it."

I finally understand that one episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

No disrespect to people who love this musical, this is the worst movie of the year... next year too.

...unable to claw itself away from its detracting visuals.

I want to tell you I at least had fun... but this movie is also so horrible it doesn't even earn the status to make fun of magicians.

| Original Score: 2/10 | Feb 23, 2021

Watching the film version of Cats is truly mystifying, in neither a completely bad nor completely good way. Fans of the theater production may enjoy seeing their favorite songs or characters again, but there's little to recommend for anyone else.

With actors who appear to have been put through the full-body Snapchat cat filter, a Ziegfeld Follies-style chorus line of dancing cockroaches and felines with human hands and feet, you'll wonder if the theatre popcorn is laced with catnip.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Jan 30, 2021

I, for one, felt lost, grappling down a sketchy back alley for rhyme, reason and, once the credits rolled, the nearest exit.

[The] stars must be coughing up hairballs after joining the film's giant litter of singing and dancing felines, whose weird digital fur and creepy features make them all look as though they've been dragged in from the Island of Dr Moreau.

May be too indigestible even for a hate-watch.

| Oct 12, 2020

Enraging, unfathomable, and laughable, Cats is a masochistic experience, that this reviewer rather hesitantly recommends - if only for the gamut of emotions it will take you through, leaving you scratched all over.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 23, 2020

Cats is disjointed, unintentionally comical, and a little creepy - and folks, I love musicals.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 16, 2020

Cats may very well be the most unique film of the year, certainly released by a major studio, and you'll love it and hate it but you sure won't forget it.
