Clifford Reviews
I found this really funny and silly from starr to finish, I loved it!
One of the funniest movies ever. Just the weird faces and looks alone had me in tears.
The interactions between Clifford and Martin are priceless. "Can't you just act like a human boy for one minute" lol
Having an adult actor play the role of the child is a brilliant idea. It gives the film a unique atmosphere like no other.
There are some movies that age like fine wine, and others that age like milk. THIS was one of the latter. (Kind of sad too, since I remember really liking it when I was a little kid)
Screen writing is average. Plot is OK. But the acting is marvelous. Martin Short is the only actor that could have pulled this one off. And each time I watch it I see some new nuance of his acting previously unnoticed. The comedic timing is perfect, and Charles Grodin plays a perfect neurotic punching bag. And the 13% critic score sounds about right.
This is a down to earth, irreverent yet allegorical, 90s classic. Those who prefer contemporary, over produced, over digitized, dark, vapid films may not like this movie or others from the time period. I realize this gives very little about the plot or any minute specifics, and it's intentional. You either dig it or you don't.
Despite its immaturity, it's weirdly entertaining and sometimes funny.
This 90s classic features Martin Short in the starring role as 10-year old Clifford, the epitome of a sneakily mischievous young boy who is out to smash anyone who stands in the way of his dreams to see Dinosaur World. A host of other famous actors fill the screen, including Charles Grodin as Uncle Martin, Mary Steenburgen as Miss Sarah Davis (the bachelor Uncle Martin's love interest), and Richard Kind as Clifford's on-the-verge-of-stroke father Julian. Short delivers an incredible performance throughout the film, which is kind of slow at times, but overall full of silly sight gags and slapstick humor.
Loved it! very cute and funny
It had some very funny moments, but also some very terrible moments. It could have done without the entire old man telling the story, it ended up making the ending super cheesy. The whole rollercoaster scene was pretty painful to sit through as well, since they don’t even try to make it funny. But it also has some very funny jokes in it, so it’s not beyond saving.
Awful, AWFUL reviews when it came out, but man did I laugh at this when I watched it. Martin Short playing a 10 year old (when he was 40) is some weird, twisted performance art that actually works. It's even better when he plays off of a raging Charles Grodin.
A cult classic in my family. This film gets more funny every time we watch it.
This movie set the groundwork for Tommy Boy. Every bit as good. Panned by the critics, Martin had me laughing from start to finish. Great ensemble, Grodin almost steals the show!
"I didn't say, ‘Nice wig, Uncle Martin.' I said ‘bestest looking wig.' I believe there is a difference." If no one in your family has ever uttered these words, you need to watch this film. Clifford is a classic film that provides laughs from start to finish. The only reason this film exists is for pure comedy. The genius of Clifford is its absurdity. Additionally, if you have ever raised a child, you understand hearing the same phrase over and over again. Clifford is filled with an over exaggeration of childhood quirks and pranks - not believable, but yet, we all grew up that kid in our class that was fully capable of these pranks.
This movie came out when I was 11. My friends and I loved it. Watching with my kids now. Still funny. The interactions with Martin Short and his uncle are great. ‘Just look at me like a normal human'. Also it's so different, pts for originality.
