Cold Case Hammarskjöld Reviews
Ultimately very sad: it indicts villains who are no longer present as an object lesson in how systemic evil can be eventually discovered but never corrected...I think Hammarskjöld is still news that should generate immediate further investigation...

This documentary goes beyond the death of [Dag Hammarskjöld], far beyond. We must take a stand, and we must do it now. [Full review in Spanish]

In his own way, the ever-present director is as much a scene-hogger as Joaquin Phoenix with one glaring difference: Brügger's mercenaries are the real-deal, not heavy-handed, makeup-streaked clowns with mommy and daddy issues.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jan 29, 2020
The story is chock full of colorful characters (other than Brügger) and suspense, as Brügger builds the tale to a climax that turns out to be quite shattering.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jan 25, 2020
A dark sinister plot as labyrinthine and far reaching as anything Thomas Pynchon ever cooked up.

As it uncovers layers of secrets and alleged corruption, the film works both as an unsettling historical expose and a provocative geopolitical thriller.

Whilst it asks more questions than it answers Cold Case Hammarskjöld is a fascinating and terrifying peek into a troubling history.
| Oct 7, 2019
The only positive thing that can be said about director Mads Brügger is that he is self-aware.
| Oct 5, 2019
Though fundamentally unbalanced and a little too navel-gazing at times, Cold Case Hammarskjöld presents a chillingly plausible slice of possibly-true crime speculation.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Oct 4, 2019
The things the film suggests may be speculative, but the genocidal racism behind the conspiracy it describes is instantly believable.
| Sep 11, 2019
It is impossible in this paranoid-making era to watch Cold Case and not be made to feel uneasy by the secrets it unlocks and the human aptitude for evil that it exposes.

Brügger's persona is lively and he has a fun time getting to the bottom of the case at hand.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 31, 2019
It's a good yarn Brügger relays ..., full of political intrigue and outlandish characters. Too bad he tells it in such a way that we're in doubt about its truthfulness.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Aug 29, 2019
...one of the oddest and most unique documentaries I've seen this year.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Aug 28, 2019
This movie blew my mind.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 26, 2019
Cold Case Hammarskjöld's wild postulations about secret political assassinations and biologically engineered viruses have a gripping, gruesome urgency: Watching it is like getting sucked into a Reddit thread at 3 in the morning.
| Aug 23, 2019
The structure and style of the documentary may skirt the satirical, but the center is cold as death.
| Original Score: 4/4 | Aug 23, 2019
At over two hours, the film takes its time arriving at its bombshell conclusion. But by the time it gets there, Brügger's credibility has run its course.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 22, 2019
Smartly demonstrates that a filmmaker's style - from fashion sense to visual approach - can affect how their authority is perceived.
| Aug 22, 2019
Six years in the making, Cold Case Hammarskjöld is by far [Mads] Brügger's most ambitious and engrossing documentary.
