I thought this movie was hilarious. It's for fans of Kubrick. Most people who are giving this bad reviews - including at least one of the actual "real" reviewers who seemingly has never seen "A Clockwork Orange" and so the reference to it goes sailing over his head! - are giving it bad reviews because I don't think they know much about the guy. The accents thing is part of the actual guy that Malkovich is playing, he's not just doing it to try something avant garde or something. There might be some homophobia in these low ratings as well, on top of the fact that Malkovich doesn't exactly play a "heroic" character. It's not a "great" movie, but I laughed, I stayed engaged, and it's only 85 minutes. Every time he tells someone he's Stanley Kubrick, the look on their faces is priceless. I'll take this any day of the week over a Marvel movie, lol.

If I didn't like John Malkovich I wouldn't bother finishing this boring movie. This was a horrible prototype of a con movie. Even though there wasn't much going on the part that was, was incredibly dull.

An intrinsically bizaare choice of movie for Malkovich about a man who allegedly pretended to be Stanley Kubrick and reaped the benefits of doing so.

A dirtball comedy about a lifelong con-artist. Catchy and quotable, and filled with sleazy whimsy.

This movie has a few funny moments, and Malkovich tries all that he can to add depth to his character. Unfortunately, the bad writing and messy direction make this movie no more than a watchable mediocrity.

An interesting story and an okay film.

So-so movie. Mostly quite dull. Details Alan Conway's impersonations of Stanley Kubrick in 1998, but every impersonation/con doesn't add anything to the previous one. It's pretty much same ole-same ole, and quite quickly. The only redeeming features are the final few scenes - quite poignant and often hilariously funny. If it wasn't for those scenes this would be a 3/10. Decent performance by John Malkovich in the lead role, though he didn't have to try too hard - seemed like every performance he has ever made. And no, this isn't strictly for Stanley Kubrick fans. I am a fan and was disappointed. The movie is about a Stanley Kubrick impersonator, not the man himself, so really has nothing to do with Stanley Kubrick himself.

Although It's Not a Very Good Picture, But It's Really Touching In Some Moments, Bryan Adams's Song Had Given That Film So Much .

It's nothing short of painful to see such a brilliant premise be made into such a bad film.

I can understand the appeal for Malkovich to play this part, being a queer con man pretending to be Kubrick & working his way through any situations but for an audience is it really interesting to watch? The character is very un-appealing, not nice at all & doesn't have an ounce of sympathy. The direction is very poor & the costumes, colors, & sets pretty cheap. It looked like a casual tv movie with a good lead actor period. In the hands of some much more talented director this story could have been a tremendous circus of a story , Malkovich should definitely be a little more careful with his choices of films.... but i guess he's at a stage where he doesn't care about anything anymore...

John Malkovich is really the only worthy aspect of the movie, but since he plays his part so stunningly, the film is quite enjoyable.

I thought it was fun. It had fun with the silly premise and did a good job of really making you feel sorry for him at a certain point. It's not a great movie by any means, but enjoyable.

While obviously the work of a novice director with more enthusiasm than skill, Color Me Kubrick luckily coasts on the has-to-be-seen-to-be-believed central performance by John Malkovich as hilariously flaming and outrageously attired conman Patrick Conway, and the witty script by real-life Kubrick associate Anthony Frewin. Ample laughs and in-jokes for Kubrick aficionados, though casual fans may not care enough to brave the sometimes flat waters of this unabashed guilty pleasure.

An arguably true story about a mad man (John Malkovich) impersonating director Stenley Kubrick to earn living. After picking a talentless artist or a musician his next victim, he butters him until he becomes completely out of touch, and uses the credit of trust to completely destroy his victim's life and feast on what's left of it. The fooled and, often, sodomised victims aren't particularly eager to confide their shame with the police, and impersonation continues until Malkovich is put into a lunatic asylum. Nice story (though not as rich as in, for instance, the more recent Catch Me if You Can) played by John Malkovich disgustingly enough to win trust of the public.
