Critics Consensus

Ben Kingsley adds some rich color to Dal铆land's palette, but given the dynamic subject matter, this is a frustratingly bland biopic portrait.

Tara Brady Irish Times Squabbling scenes between Kingsley and Sukowa make the enterprise worthwhile, but there are too many exchanges that attempt to shoehorn in backstory and context and even more fudges, most notably around Dal铆鈥檚 sexual proclivities. Rated: 3/5 •  Nov 17, 2023 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) The great missed opportunity of this film, with its glossy, handsome design and cinematography, and its genteel orchestral score, is how polite and unadventurous it is 鈥 something that could never be said of Dal铆 himself. Dr. J This is a surprisingly excellent & serious portrait of Salvador Dali. The trailer made it look like a cartoon version of Dali and his life -- silly but distinctive mustache, and all orgies, and ego. Instead it is sensitive to the eccentricities of the man, and pays tribute to his artistic vision as he explains through dialogue delivered subtly and convincingly by Ben Kingsly. He disappears behind the mustache to become Dali as does Gaila in her wig. Wonderful portrait, and correctly set in the 60's milieu. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/19/23 Full Review Pliny Loved this movie. Great producer team with Sam pressman and terrific cast. Very engaging story and production value.
