Days of Thunder Reviews
Does he run in this one? I don't remember. This cast is revving on all cylinders and places a perfect "popcorn movie" right in the winner's circle for the summer. It's kind of like the movie Cars blended with the movie Doc Hollywood and a sprinkle of Top Gun just for good measure. I'll have to check my records because I don't remember if THIS is the "vehicle" that made Tom and Nicole Kidman fall in love or if it was another random event or a cool Hollywood party. They were certainly an "it" couple for several years there. Did they have a cute nickname? I don't remember. What's more, she popped on the scene when there weren't a ton of redheaded performers, so for that I'm thankful.
Wow, you don't generally see movies this simplistic and silly. This movie is geared towards 8 year-olds. Waste of a lot of talent.
I was in a rush to get done with the movie, guess they want a second chance to make it right
Good racing scenes but Nicole Kidman as a neurosurgeon? That is beyond belief.
One of the greatest films in history, FACT. Up there with Rocky for sports films
Crazy awesome movie, great cast. Great chemistry. Love it. NRJ.
First Nascar movie I watched, lack luster performance from Tom Cruise, the plot was very dry, but other than that, it's not the worst movie.
This has absolutely everything going for it with the cast, director, and setting. Maybe one of Cruise's more completely uninteresting characters, the story and pacing is all so bland.
It was great!!! I love speed and motor sports!! The sound track was awesome too!
A highly entertaining movie with very convincing and realistic racing scenes that show an accurate depiction of how dangerous nascar racing is it's well directed and well acted Tom cruise is great in the movie and the love story of him and Nicole Kidman is solid this film is top gun with racecars even if it's not as popular it's still a well made film and a delightful experience to watch the dialogue is also decent and I also loved seeing real life racecar drivers make a cameo this is a fun classic bruckheimer/simpson film and for those who are a fan of the producers will certainly love and enjoy days of thunder and I enjoyed it as well B+
In my opinion the best race car driving movie ever next to ford v Ferrari it shows a realistic portrayal of how dangerous nascar racing is and how drivers can crash into each other tom cruise and Nicole Kidman are phenomenal here and tony Scott did a great job directing it and it's also nice to see cameos from famous nascar drivers including Richard the king petty rusty wallace and Neil bonnet in the film even the late dale earnhardt sr nearly was cast as the villain but didn't like playing a bad guy still with or without the film is still the perfect movie that shows how they depict the dangers of nascar driving this is a well acted motion picture that provides the best entertainment hollywood gives us 8.5/10
Yeah, the comparisons to Top Gun are warranted but at its core, Days of Thunder accomplishes the job it sets out to do, sometimes funny, sometimes exciting but never boring. While the tension and rush of adrenaline can stagnate in direct contrast to its Air Force counterpart, Tony Scott directs the film with his patented flair and an exceptional sense of cinematic style, sunsets and all, elevating an already decent script to new heights. It rides heavily on the primal masculine energy with a big budget, big stars and a big director, with the exceptionally strong performances from Tom and the supporting cast combined with an exhilarating Hans Zimmer score, working with Scott to bring Days of Thunder's speed and high-octane eye candy to the screen. No one directed a movie quite like Tony Scott, hitting all the right notes and capturing your heart like thunder, rest well big man.
This is easily the most painfully 80s movie of all time. Despite being released in 1990, this movie just completely captures the 80s feel and atmosphere. It's Top Gun with cars. Nothing more and nothing less. It's another collaboration between Tom Cruise, Tony Scott and producer Don Simpson so all the story beats from Top Gun are there. The action is shot very well and the camera never stays still for very long. It's shot at a frenetic pace that makes things very exciting. Tom Cruise is great and has great chemistry with Nicole Kidman. Robert Duvall, Michael Rooker and Cary Elwes deliver good performances. The soundtrack is great. The film just gets so ridiculously campy and stupid. It's just laughably ridiculous. But it's great entertainment. Watch it with an open mind and you'll have the time of your life.
Welp it's a classic film that's kinda like top gun but insert nascars, the score and acting along with real racing and stunts just makes current movies look desperate. Watch it once and you'll find yourself watching it a few times more
There has been a time, when I really liked the movie. But yesterday, watching it and seeing Randy Quaid, I was five seconds before vomiting. It destroyed the whole movie for me. So, I took the Blu-Ray and gave it to the dustbin. Never again can I watch this movie again.
This movie belongs sadly to the "Hall of mid Tom Cruise films".
Tony Scott is a really overrated director. But this is one of his best movies. Yet it's a decent racing movie. Tom Cruise is good in this movie as well as everyone else. Just not one of the best sports movies.
Typical 90s movie focused on pure entertainment. Women get Tom and we get the racing and Nicole. Miss the times where movies where about fun and not the constant lecturing of toxic masculinity. Now we have feminine toxicity and it has killed all Hollywood movies.
This movie got me interested in racing. It's a time piece but it still holds up. Same formula as most of the sports movies of the 80s but it works and you get Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in their prime. Solid performances by Robert Duvall and Michael Rooker are the icing on the cake in this exciting and emotional thrill ride.
I'm not going to sugarcoat it, Days of Thunder is not very good. It's, at its core, Top Gun with racecars, right down to having the same people involved. It's not the worst movie ever; Tom Cruise does his best with the material he has to work with, the music's great, there are a few funny moments and the racing scenes are okay for the most part. But the characters are lacking in dimensionality, the narrative is barely-there and the script is lacking. I will say this about the movie though, there is something endearing about Nicole Kidman's first Hollywood role and how her Australian accent keeps slipping out to the point that she seems to just give up pretending to be American by the third act as well as all the camera trickery being done to hide the fact that Kidman is very clearly taller than her then-boyfriend Cruise. I didn't go in this film wanting to dislike it and I knew in advance that this was meant to be Top Gun's spiritual successor but man, did I find Days of Thunder unremarkable. Say what you want about Top Gun's '80s cheese, at least people remember the quotes, scenes, songs and homoeroticism. Is Days of Thunder remembered all that much save for perhaps the Cruise/Kidman relationship? I know it got a video game in 2011 so surely this film has a fanbase but I regret to say I'm not one of them.
