The Dead Girl Reviews
Incredible movie!!!! Well acted with so many stars - every one in this movie MADE the movie.
I gave up after 21 minutes. Unable to accept that what was depicted has any reference to actual persons or situations. I recognize that the great majority of critics and viewers disagree.
As with everything in life (and death), it's all about perspective. This film deals with that by draping perspective over the body of a dead Jame Doe. As the film progresses, you see how those perspectives shift between people. I thought it was a great movie, and Brittany Murphy did a great job of bringing the dead girl to life.
Decent film. Everyone's acting was just fine. I like how it was structured. Not something I am going to revisit, though.
A very bleak anthology. Each segment do their best to be as broody than the last so, as spectators, we can never take a breath between desolate characters at the bottom of their life. The 5 segments develop a main story about a dead girl and her murder. Those stories are all linked by how the corpse affects the protagonist's live. There are some great actors there but it sometimes hard to take their role seriously as their characters really need you to know how miserable they are. There are still some good in it, it's interesting to collect the pieces about what happened to the dead girl until the (somewhat simple) reveal and some stories (especially the wife one) are pretty good on their own and have interesting twist.
Really enjoyed the film. Great cast and well directed. Somber movie which I really dug and you have to pay attention to the story to get the most out of it. Wish it was available in the US on blu-ray or even iTunes, but for now will just hold onto my steelbook DVD of the film.
The 5-way splintered non-linear structure makes this grim murder-mystery quite compelling as it's bolstered with an ensemble cast of powerhouse actors.
Slow and heavy at times, but very realistic film, with some great performances especially by Murphy, Harden and Washington. Worth a watch.
Brilliant performances abound in this bleak depressing tail of a dead drug addict and a serial killer. Watched it several times and never fails to leave me with an awful sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Make sure to watch a nice romcom after.
Terrific flick. Not formulaic which is one of its charms. There's a thousand by-the-numbers melodramas for the pea-brained moviegoer to veg-out in front of. Those on here who hate it I'm gonna guess are all lower IQ. Anyone with a brain or who can handle their cinematic journeys without have to be spoonfed them will love this. Toni Collette is remarkable. Piper Laurie is chilling. The pace and storylines interact in nonconventional and intelligent fashion. A small overlooked gem.
Wow! Crazy but great movie! It makes me wonder if I've ever been connected to someone without even knowing it??? You really just never know!
Excellent cast. Excellent acting. Excellent writing. Excellent direction. Kudos to all involved. Alton Chaney
Five unrelated stories revolving around the discovery of a dead girl in a remote field. These stories feature pathetic people behaving in apathetic ways. "The Stranger" and "The Wife" were revolting. I felt great pity for "The Sister" and "The Dead Girl." The one fairly normal story, "The Mother," was still depressing. All are very well acted. Not a good time movie, but it is worth watching.
