Dead Man's Shoes Reviews
Unrelenting revenge slasher, extremely grey and British, slightly odd, and overall fairly enjoyable if you can tolerate a slow paced mumble slasher.
Quite enjoyed despite the gritty revenge theme.Excuse me but love a revenge movie. Just sorry the guy in the kitchen was disposed of so quickly without some suffering. A little sorry at the end to see the stabbing but perhaps better than a whole life term for him.
one of the best british movies.
Sensationally cold revenge movie. Paddy Considine is chilling and Toby Kebbell gives an extraordinary performance. Violent, harrowing but relentlessly gripping. Could be Shane Meadows best work.
Absolutely Recommended because the storyline
I first saw this movie by accident when it was on late back when movies were just on the telly. I recently watched it with my son now that he's an adult. Dead Man's Shoes is a masterpiece. The audience score clearly flies in the face of the critics who gave it a splat. Clearly it went over their heads, if indeed they bothered to actually watch it.
Brilliant performances, Gary Stretch an ex boxer and model is a revelation and maybe Paddy Considenes best ever performance. Just Grimey enough and just funny enough , Set in the Midlands which We don’t see enough of in British film making .
Paddy Considine’s performance is excellent. A British revenge thriller in a familiar setting. The narrative could be sharper in places and I was disappointed by the ending, but overall it’s a solid film and worth the watch.
This film is such a gem. Incredible how Paddy Considine and Shane Meadows were able to make this such a darkly harrowing tale yet they were able to sprinkle some very comic moments in there that didn't undermine the film's gravity.
One of my favourite films. It's portrayal of small time, small town "gangsters" is spot on. The scene where they pull up in a 2CV Dolly listening to hip-hop sums it all up. A very British film, funny, sad, depressing, and violent - the balance is perfect. I've never looked at a pot noodle in the same light.
I thought this film has a great story plot as a British revenge movie. Some of the acting is a bit on par but having such an intense storyline on this subject is what really makes this film so enticing to the viewer. A definite 8.5/10.
I thought this was an absolute must see! Both technically, the acting was superb and the editing was incredible! And emotionally, I don't think I've ever seen the telling of a weirder, funnier and more harrowing story in my life, and I truly connected with it. It has answered a philosophical question for me that I don't think I would have answered the same way before seeing this film.
A truly outstanding film, dripping with tense scenes and reflective a type of caustic toxic masculine friendship that can lead to "pranks" that go too far. Paddy Considine is terrifying as the avenging angel seeking retribution for terrible unkindness visited on his gentle and simple sibling. Considine wears the Derbyshire accent beautifully with flat vowels in abundance and emanates menace, utterly uncowed by the man antagonist. The destruction of their unfeeling cabal is brutal, and deserved? I re watch on average every 5 years, it is not an easy watch but ranks as one of my favorite films.
Only director Shane Meadows could create a British movie as dark, disturbing and emotional as 2004's 'Dead Man's Shoes'. SYNOPSIS: 'A disaffected soldier returns to his hometown to get even with the thugs who brutalized his mentally-challenged brother years ago.: There are so many things that trouble me about 'Dead Man's Shoes' and I think the film is doing exactly the job it was designed to do. The film is an unrelenting revenge fantasy thriller that's probably Meadow's best work to date. The film meanders along with a powder keg performance from Considine at its core. At times he's totally unhinged and that makes his moments of clarity even more disturbing. His journey is both grimly satisfying as it is sadly insightful. A mirror into the darkness inside all of us. 'Dead Man's Shoes' is a truly disturbing, uncompromising and completely gripping movie. It's also deeply unpleasant. A classic British movie. 8/10
It's a classic. Keep a watch out for the plot similarities to First Blood, but a much grittier film.
Coming from the Midlands in the UK this film resonates deeply with me. I think it's one of the best films of the 2000s.
Great storyline. It felt like a true story
One of my all time favourite films. Made on a budget by Meadows in around 2-3 months. The film's got everything, it's sinister, dark, funny, tense and delivers an extremely strong message in the final scenes. All the actors do an excellent job, especially Considine and Kebell whose first full length movie it was. Fantastic piece of film making on a budget. Everyone I've recommended it to has be blown away by it. It's films like this that should win awards, not CGI packed movies where true acting is rather sparse. There are hints towards the end but you have to watch the end carefully to see what the script is saying and what the moral of the story is. It's not just a run of the film revenge story because of that twist at the end. If ever a film showed that the so called professional critics haven't got a clue it's this one. Mmmmh on the other hand it seems the general public knows a quality film when they see it.
Strange how foreigners just don't get it. They can't see beyond Hollywood blockbusters for their entertainment. This is shoestring original film making at its best. Think Trainspotting, Commitments etc. Brilliant, gritty, edgy, clever, British, original. Thankfully, intelligent folks see past the self proclaimed ‘experts' and broaden their horizons to discover gems like this………
One of the finest movies ive seen. Fantastic story. Had me gripped from the beginning to end.
