The Dead Zone Reviews
I thought this was a very good movie. I always love Christopher Walken. Really, the entire cast was excellent. As far as Steven King stories go, this is more of a creepy slow burn than outright horror.
One of my favourite movies of all time. Christopher Walken is outstanding! I remember well many of his key lines
Decent for a 2025 watch. Almost predicts the future...
A great psychological movie with a mesmerizing performance by Christopher Walken.
Combining the source of Stephen King and the filmmaking of David Cronenberg (Rabid, Fast Company) makes for an tense thriller that has an incredible performance by Christopher Walken (The Anderson Tapes, Roseland)
By far the best adaptation of a King novel. Keeps itself very close to the text with excellent performances from all concerned. Just a shame it doesn't receive the same coverage of other King based films.
I got a kick out of this movie. I noticed two points of irony in this flick. First observation, Christopher Walken's character is a school teacher who later inherits supernatural abilities. Early in the story, he recommends the Washington Irving story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to his students. In real life, Walken portrays the supernatural being of the headless horseman in Tim Burton's film adaptation of the story. It was released in 1999. Second, Martin Sheen portrays a politician who aspires to become the President of the United States. Sure enough, Sheen portrays a fictionalized version of the President in the highly-rated television program The West Wing. Its first season was broadcast in 1999. Thus concludes my observations from The Twilight Zone.
Truly one of Stephen King's powerful adaptation film ever is really suspenseful and very emotional thriller and Christopher Walken's performance is absolutely force of nature he's character is so human and tragic and you really do care for John who lost everything but he has the power to change the past, present and future to save mankind and this is very different directing from David Cronenberg with out body horror and make it a human drama psychological political thriller and really outstanding musical score to make the dead zone a true masterpiece and really strong writing to make this film possible.
The geniuses of Stephen King writing and David Cronenberg directing, with a stunning Christopher Walken give us a perfect thriller drama! Great!
As soon as I finished the book, I watched the movie. It's like a very very brief cliff notes summary of the book. It quickly hits the main points, skipping a few key things. Maybe the recent series will go into more graphic detail.
The Dead Zone benefits from a strong performance by its star, Christopher Walken, and demonstrates the directional prowess of David Cronenberg. This was the first film of his where he only served as director and not writer as well. I've never been a huge fan of psychic-themed films, which may be why this one did not enthrall me very much. In that regard, my criticism is on unexplored but vital elements of the underlying story. That falls on Stephen King. For that, I would happily watch this again but only if there were nothing else to choose from.
Really interesting movie with a genuinely likeable character, and a super comforting vibe.
Pretty well done thriller. The villain in the end seems to pop in abruptly, but overall the movie works!
The greatest 01 hour: and 43 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was totally engrossed and the time flew by while watching this. My only complaint is that imo it's barely a horror movie.
The plot line is a good one: if you could see into the future, what would you do? Christopher Walken is excellent in this part. There are many versions, but this is my favorite.
Too darn depressing and really unpleasant in today's climate.
Although The Dead Zone wasn't a major hit like some of King's other early adaptations it is certainly in the top tier of his adapted films and is one of Cronenberg's best features, too.
Overall, The Dead Zone is a great Stephen King novel brought to life, delivering good thrills and chills instead of just gross horror with blood and guts. I enjoyed the story here and its characters. I also praise its unpredictable plot and the resulting elements along the way. Christopher Walken was a great choice to play this lead role of a young man who discovers a new psychic gift or curse.
A man wakes from a coma with special abilities to see the future of anyone he touches and its a curse for him, but a joy to watch for us.
