The Dead Zone Reviews
The Dead Zone is a better Stephen King film than a David Cronenberg film. There's some great imagery here, but the best storylines (the murders) are speedily wrapped up to get to the hastily developed battle between Johnny and Stilson

Walken’s layered performance and Cronenberg’s sensitive direction [give] The Dead Zone an acutely bittersweet edge.

One of [Cronenberg's] most perceptive and complex dramas.
| Original Score: 4/4 | Feb 22, 2023
A beautifully depressive New England mood piece, with Christopher Walken's best performance ever.
| Original Score: A | Dec 2, 2022
In a career built on unsettling, uncompromising bleak visions, "The Dead Zone" is among David Cronenberg’s most poignant, powerful and strangely humane.

The Dead Zone remains a dissatisfying experience.

Over the years, I have grown to love this movie... It's a beautiful film with a great nuanced performance by Christopher Walken.

Ranks among the finest of all Stephen King adaptations.

David Cronenberg delivers a curiously flat, uninspired adaptation of Stephen King's book starring Christopher Walken doing his mad sorcerer thing.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 21, 2020
An unusual, fast-moving thriller even though it seems to be two separate stories connected by the same hero.

The Dead Zone evokes the feel of this moment with surprising authenticity. The movie's sense of dread, of a system that is teetering on the edge of disaster, feel unnervingly of the moment.

What makes the The Dead Zone so frightening-and finally deeply moving-is how it commits to the psychology of a guy whose destiny is destroyed and fulfilled by the way he's slipping through the cracks.

The Dead Zone is one of the best Stephen King film adaptations as it deftly combines the supernatural with real world elements culminating in a believable story.

Before Christopher Walken was a punchline, he was an actor...you get a great sense of how startling Walken can be as a star, of how unusual and unexpected his every choice is, from his turn in this early-career King adaptation

The Dead Zone ultimately ranks as one of the best King adaptations to date.
| Original Score: A | Oct 21, 2013
[An] engrossing yet strangely unembellished adaptation of Stephen King's bestseller by director David Cronenberg.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 6, 2013
Director David Cronenberg's sense of pace is acute, the editing by Ronald Sanders is seamless and suspenseful. And, if nothing else, the movie establishes that chills can be generated without explicit gore and violence.

It's both moving and quietly unsettling as it builds towards a forceful climax.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 19, 2010
An accomplished psychological thriller.
| Oct 7, 2008
Arguably the best adaptation of a Stephen King novel.
