Dear Evan Hansen Reviews
I've been a fan of Dear Evan Hansen since the musical. the book was good too. I thought the movie adaptation would be the icing on the cake, but I have to admit there were some notes missed for me. While the movie wouldn't be able to match the source material exactly, I was dissaoointed to see a few details and songs left out. but on the same not I feel like some scenes were changed for the better to make sense. Overall I'm happy I saw it and my love for Dear Evan Hansen is present.
The underlying story and songs were so great to begin with that it was impossible to butcher them completely. But Amy Adams was physically annoying to have to watch, and the audio mix kept the voices so much louder than the music. That being said, there were some poignant moments. For once, the audience would be right in thinking we could direct this movie musical better than the professionals.
We really enjoyed this movie. It's a bit of a heart wrenching tale though you feel for all involved, so be ready to emote some.
Richness of characters, fascinating storyline, heartbreaking!
A show every high schooler, teacher, and parent should see
Incredibly good- a must see!!!
This is a great movie that the critics (and some audience members) didn’t seem to understand. Totally relatable to my high school days being lost in the crowd, wishing for a friend to share my experiences with. It is not a film about suicide but about depression, and while the boy didn’t get the girl in the end he did find himself, which was much more important.
Great adaptation of the Broadway play. Ben Platt and supporting cast are superb.
Powerful movie about teens and their insecurities. Definitely a tearjerker!
Very moving. Gave me insight into students feeling anxiety/depression/lonliness.
Terrific acting and singing. Poignant. Heart wrenching, as I think of so many I know who are dealing with anxiety and depression. Interesting story line. Liked hearing main chatacters explanations and journey to the conclusion of movie.
Evan Hansen deserved jail time for his crimes
Phenomenally done. I absolutely loved this adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen! Trigger warning though: suicide, depression, anxiety, etc. plays a big role in this movie.
Despite it's criticism from basically everywhere, real musical theater lovers will absolutely love and appreciate this movie. Could they have found an actor who portrays a teen better? Probably. But could they have found one who put his EVERYTHING into this character while singing? No. Ben Platt gives his ALL in this movie.
Music was wonderful. It was interesting to see the adaptation of a theatre production to the screen instead of the other way around and that they didn’t stray from the original. Unnecessary to make Jared gay. He wasn’t gay in the original.
My wife and I loved it !! It makes you think about the pressures that young adults are under and parents of those lost kids that think they have no way out
The only mistake that I made in seeing this movie was not bringing tissues….. Beautifully done! Bravo! Making a movie based on a musical and vice versa is always a risk and this definitely paid off. The casting was perfect—although it was a bit off seeing Ben Platt reprise his role (not quite as believable now that a few years have passed since he was in it on Broadway). But the actors all did AMAZING and the message that this resonates is so important. Everyone needs to see this!
The movie was very our generation and hit close to home. The only reason I didn't like it was because the main character always made me feel uncomfortable with how he looked. He was supposed to be a teenager but looks like he was older. Other than that I loved the movie.
Amazing performances by all actors. Ben Platt is a phenomenon! What a talented man.
Benjamin Platt should win a Best Actor award for his brilliant and deeply emotional portrayal of a teenager struggling with depression and anxiety.
