Made in 07, I watched in 2024 after looking into Billy Crudup work. Was peaked by this movie he was in featuring Mandy Moore. Made in a time when I was most impressionable I was surprised I had not heard of this sooner. This a great little drama/romance movie I didn't see coming. A younger and might I say cute, Billy plays a character with many quirky parts while Mandy plays a role that's suited well for her. Some reviews critique their lack of on-screen chemistry, but I think they put together just enough that make this film the little charmer that it is. At first one may wonder how deep this movie might go with such a layered main character. One might want them to really flesh that out, but instead the little bit they do is delivered with intrigue and subtle humor that makes and builds to a decent payoff. Nothing overly complex, just a different kind of love story that is what I hope for but rarely seem to find these days. Also worth mentioning and another reason this jumped up on my list to watch is that this was Justin Theroux's directorial debut. Give it watch, It wont hurt your day, I promise.

Horrendous sound track does nothing to redeem this unhappy film which leaves one feeling miserable. Sorry to see such great acting talents as Tom Wilkinson and Billy Krudup wasted on this film. Justin Theroux should stick to acting.

What a tediously boring movie, I will never get that time back, OMG. Comedy/Drama, no torture. more like it

Often overlooked but deeply soulful indie film. Billy Crudup and Mandy Moore are terrific in this film.

Without Tom Wilkinson it would be in trouble. Clever script, good soundtrack.

Billy Crudup's performance is a great reason to check out this film. He is on top of his game here. It is one of his best. I kept questioning if his character has bipolar disorder. The film was good. It is a bit predictable, but that didn't bother me here. Crudup and Moore have a great on screen chemistry, as does, Crudup and Wilkinson. The scenes between Wilkinson and Crudup are really good. I liked the editing and the music in the film. I definitely recommend this film.

Billy Crudup does an excellent job portraying an obsessive-compulsive writer of children books. Mandy Moore's performance is somewhat lack-luster. Although a somewhat predictable plot - this movie is well worth watching - especially for Crudup's performance.

I have a new found love for Billy Crudup post Almost Famous days. He is simply amazing in this neurotic role and despite all his character's flaws keeps the audience on his side the entire time. Moore was a surprise in this role, usually her romantic comedy roles leave a lot to be desired but she's finally stumbled across a script that she can work with and one which highlights her strong points. This is Justin Theroux's directorical debut and I have to say I am pretty impressed. There are some visual techniques used here which I thought worked really well to enhance the story and its characters. This twisted romantic comedy is a must see for anyone with a dry sense of humour that might demand a bit more from what has become a tired mainstream genre nowadays. On the back of seeing 27 dresses this movie is a masterpiece for me, there was something about it that I just fell in love with. The combination of the desperation, the longing, the realization, the subtle romantic interludes and the bitterness. I especially enjoyed the ongoing relationship and conversations Henry had with Rudy after his death, it gave a real insight into the inner character. A completely unique and entrancing romantic drama comedy that I highly recommend.

A dark, offbeat romantic (ish) comedy about Henry (Crudup), a writer of children's stories, who is forced to work with new illustrator, Lucy (Moore). Dedication is about as far away from romantic and sentimental as you can get and it may be a little too arty for some but you will start to warm to its complex but likable characters by the end. Notable for a grounded, serious and rather affecting performance from Moore.
