Weird shit. Very austrian.

Ulrich Seidl's Dog Days feels like something Michael Haneke might have come up with early in his career…on a bad day…with no budget. The film focuses on the residents of a housing development outside Vienna during an oppressive heatwave and that's about all that can really be said about the plot. Despite the fact that most of the characters appear to be quite loathsome, a couple of the scenes are intriguing. Unfortunately, the remainder of the scenes are baffling and are more likely to induce wincing rather than advancing a storyline or developing a character. While there may be a message buried somewhere in this thing (other than the fact that Austrians apparently don't react well to heat), the message is difficult to find and most audiences will be left asking themselves the following questions: What am I watching? Why am I watching?

Some bad movies are kinda good. Especially when there are dogs involved.

The interweaving stories of low lives in Austria in uncomfortable situtions. The naturalistic depression goes on for 2 whole hours, definitely not worth watching even though John Waters recommended it.

This film is build on several stupid people. Anoyingly stupid people I must say. Not very artsy, just weird, disturbing and quite sad. I won't forget the characters in some time, and this might be the film's strongest feature. It reminded me a bit of "Gummo" mixed with "Dogtooth"s sterility and the nudity of "Idioterne". I will remember it, but not as a whole or certain scenes, just the characters. Halv a mark added since I liked that rain scene a lot.

The subject matter of suburban dysfunction usually gets black comedy treatment, but this movie takes a different approach. Shot in documentary style, it has voyeuristic effect where the viewer is observing miserable lives of several people. None of the characters is likeable, and the director doesn't hold back to show their desperation. It's not an easy watch at times, yet somehow it's an engrossing experience.

A very weird and psycho movie concerning about a community in Austria.. Too many people played a peculiar role in this movie.. In short, people are weird..

had no plot really. the hitchhiker was sort of entertaining and i felt bad for her at the end. the domestic abuse was depressing. could have gone without the old lady's strip tease. is *everyone* in austria ugly and/or fat? i don't care, but um, wow. lol

get into this and you will get something out of it, set in austria we follow various people from bored suburbuns to salesmen going asbout there day, dealing with the life problems they are dealt with, not everyone is sucessful in the stories, but some hit the mark, austria looking sunny and inviting especially its suburbun settings, and film at times does have a leisurly feel, along with some hard hitting scenes towards end and the last 30 minutes or so staying like this, not for everyone but theres ceretainly a lot there for me

I'm about 10 minutes away from turning it of and playing kids cross country on Marvel VS Capcom. This movie is whack.

i liked this, but not sure why. i love films where scorching heat is actually more important than most of the characters. i love how extreme heat can make people react (or not react). the heatwave seems very appropriate as a mirror of the apathy of most characters. both 'cucaracha' scenes are actually really powerful, my favourites by far. also the annoying girl, i love how the director plays with the audience there. you just want her to die, or smack her in the face so she shuts up. and then the end comes and everything's a bit 'ooops, i feel horrible now'. great. still, too choral for me. i love choral films but here it sometimes felt it's just a collection of tiny stories, only linked together by the loneliness and sadness of their characters. all in all, i'm glad i watched it.

ouf... c'est porc comme film. Immoral et misogyne, canicule dérange ds le propos que ds le visuel. Si c'est vrmt la mentalité des autrichiens sa fait froid dans le dos... déconseillé aux gens sensibles et surtout aux femmes. C'est définitivement le film le plus misogyne qui m'a été de voir avec ichi the killer...

Suburban hell, Vienna, Austria - where lonely, violent, petty and depressed sex perverts spend their lives in abject misery. I loved it.
