Domino Reviews
sickening for De Palma to put this out. What awards show has no security. And it starts with a cop who forgets his gun lol.
It's not that bad, it has some cool set pieces and it's not too long, the story is not perfect but very few are
This is a movie made in 2019 that looks and sounds two decades older, and puzzling scene and sound choices kept it in engaging throughout. This film helped me stop taking a base level of entertainment in many competent but forgettable films for granted.
Rotten. In crime investigation, a star (detective) forgot his handgun. Unbelievable and Unbelievable. Downhill after that.
For a b-movie, I would have to say that this film is got an interesting plot. If you are truly bored and want something to pass the time, then this is a good choice. Film-wise not too impressive, no impressive or beautiful shots. But overall an entertaining short b-film.
How sad to see Brian De Palma look both completely outdated and irrelevant as a director, while ripping off classic directors. Racist stereotypes abound with a script that's off the rails. Such a waste of great danish actors.
Man, this is from the director that gave us the Untouchables? Everything sucked about this. It's as if it was directed by a first year film student project. And how did they get the great Guy Pearce to do this ??
Strange movie that starts out one way and then becomes something else that is splintered into three different stories. I may have scored this higher but I rarely like movies that deal with Middle Eastern terrorists. It had some moments where it seems intelligent and unique and others where you think it's just a mess. 2 1/2 of 5
Absolutely rubbish, crap acting, effects, plot, only decent thing the bull didn't die, without hopefully giving anything away... First time I have rated, it is that bad. I'm not a big Guy Pearce fan but even I thought he could do better than this shite, BTW, this was my wife's choice.
DePalma claims that the producers of Domino cut his budget and edited the film from 140 + minutes down to 88 minutes. It certainly lacks character development, and the plot is very sketchy. There are some identifiable DePalma screen moments, including the rooftop chase (think Vertigo) and the bullfight sequence. But we know so little about the characters and the plot is so underdeveloped, the whole thing is a unmemorable flop. Too bad. I hope DePalma hasn't lost his chops. It looks like he just got involved with the wrong film company and producers.
DePalma tre sa se lase de filme
Making Danish characters speak English is a really bad move. Various characters appropriately speak French, Arabic and Spanish, but for some weird reason, not a word of Danish is heard from named characters. The film does have a radiant style and some of the directorial decisions are nothing less than fascinating, albeit they do not quite contribute to immersion. The dramatic old-fashioned score recalls Hitchcockian thriller and some of the camera angles are quite on the nose. Obviously, the film is filled with enormous talent and sufficient star power in its cast, but Eriq Ebouaney is the undeniable star that draws attention and creates intrigue. I found myself wishing Ezra Tarzi to gradually steal the role of the protagonist, becoming an uncomfortable main character instead of the colourless star pair Nicolaj Coster-Waldau and Carice Van Houten, who both give a good but rather uneventful performance. Guy Pearce sails through the narrative without much effort. Paprika Steen is wonderful but somewhat underutilized as the wife of Waldau's comatized partner. As to the actual story, there is some serious potential in the elements but it all just boils down to a standard and, I'm afraid, quite dull terrorist hunt. Still, nice to see the legendary Brian DePalma still direct blockbuster hopeful. Good for him. Two stars for the effort and to Eriq Ebouaney.
The WORST. Shockingly BAD acting, plot, scenes, framing... so hokey and fake and cliché. A waste of film and certainly a waste of time to watch.
Is "Holy shit, this was a Brian De Palma movie?" the best pull-quote that Rotten Tomatoes could showcase from their "Super Reviewers?"
I signed up to rotten tomatoes just to write this review. This was a slow motion trainwreck that I really didn't want to watch all the way through...but I hoped there would be some redemption at some point. The oversimplified dialogue describing everything that was happening and everything people were thinking was amateur at best. The soundtrack was almost comical. The pacing and over blocked scenes was uncomfortable to watch. I hope the Lannisters pay their debts - because they owe me a couple hours of my life...
