Don't Make Me Go Reviews
I appreciate Don’t Make Me Go for at the very least taking such a big risk ... Even though the whole package doesn’t work, there are still things within it to take away.

Don't Make Me Go takes a sharp turn into what feels like drama for the sake of drama.

Don’t Make Me Go doesn’t just follow the guidebook on how these types of films are made, it adamantly refuses to make even the slightest detour from the established formula.

What makes Don’t Make Me Go an incredible drama is how it shows the challenges of emotional confrontation and how it is difficult to fulfil a parent’s fantasy for their child.

The script doesn't do much different to what we're used to, but the killer soundtrack and likeable characters elevate it to a higher level.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 24, 2023
Don’t Make Me Go's sensationalist ending feels like tragedy for the sake of tragedy instead of the more refined journey that brought the audience to this destination.

Don't Make Me Go is handled with so much grace and care based on the subject matter. They evenly balance life, death, joy, tragedy, and happiness throughout. John Cho & Mia Issac have so much kinetic chemistry, allowing for beautiful character moments.

A solid and well-acted father-daughter road trip drama. Nice to see John Cho showcasing his dramatic as well as comic side. The ending throws a curveball I did not see coming, a rare feat for a drama.

Without spoiling its ending, which itself spoils everything that preceded it, it takes such a sudden swerve in the final act that the entire film is left reeling and scrambling to make sense of what happened.

It’s likely people will make the mistake of thinking this was an adaptation of a popular book, one of those novels seen in airports and picked up by parents and teens looking to throw it away after their vacation ends.

Things feel right until the game-changer ending takes it down a road I felt it shouldn't have gone.

Director Hannah Marks impedes “the final destination” for so long you might overlook her shameless “big twist.” She implores us to care, but makes that impossible by being so relentlessly predictable.

It doesn’t always capitalize on its strengths, but Don’t Make Me Go is a journey worth taking thanks to fantastic performances from its two leads.

It's like watching a "This Is Us" marathon where they take out the connective threads and just play the most weepy bits.

Mia Isaac is most likely a bona fide star in the midst of a breakout moment. She’s got the “It” factor. As good as John Cho is here, it’s Isaac’s movie, but it’s a fun ride because of the outstanding father-daughter chemistry between Cho and Isaac.
| Original Score: 3.5 | Jul 28, 2022
John Cho is wonderful, but Mia Isaac is just excellent in this movie.

On paper this hacky plot must have sounded terrible but the actors sell it, making their characters elicit empathy and the entire concept believable.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jul 21, 2022
What impressed me about Don’t Make Me Go was how subtle it was for so much of its runtime, weaving a path through the tropes and cliches of the genre that kept it refreshing while still being the story you think it is.

This is one of those films that feels like they never end. Don’t Make Me Go doesn’t exactly outstay its welcome, it just somehow keeps going after you assume it’s done.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 21, 2022
Director Hannah Marks made a film called After Everything that outlined the challenge of living with cancer which works far better than this infuriating one about keeping it a secret.
